Hospitals going solar 11:51 - Jan 4 with 415 viewsCatullus

Soa 5.7 million spend to recoup about 500k per year, 12 years to be in profit.

Is this a good spend or a waste of money?

Should healy boards be doing this or should all our utilities be publicly owned and the emergency services given their power and water for free?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

One of the major problems of our Utility companies being privately owned is that they're owned by foreign countries . If renationalised then there'd be no more large divis paid out to shareholders or high interest rates on private debt. I worked for the UKs largest nationalised utility company and the local employment rate was substantially higher than it it is now. which meant local wages earned were spend locally. Our networks are now risk managed rather than having policy of preventative maintenance , any refurbishment work undertaken has been using substandard materials and goods ( with equipment sourced from overseas ) which although looks good on paper for the shareholder the cost further down the line is doubled due to the life span being much reduced .
Regarding solar not my 1st choice of renewable energy but yes there's an initial rate up cost but why not utilise the resource used to generate power needed. Swansea North is a major hub for the national grid along with the LPG gas line so I can see further project such as the solar farm becoming more prominent , especially with the proposal of a new village near Llangyfelach

I can't argue with you on any of that but, is this a good use of NHS resources or should the government be doing more?

Governments could always do more , in all aspects of society .Without out knowing the detail of costings etc i couldn't say whether its good bad or indifferent but this "project" isn't the first of its kind and hopefully by now all the glitches will have been overcome elsewhere . Again hopefully what Morriston will have will be a system with the most up to date available technology .

Any savings will depend on tax payers subsidising it.
Take a look at how much power is currently being generated by national solar.

That is actually my concern. While I agree generally with increasing solar capacity, will this be a wide use of NHS money right now?

How are they paying it off, what are the financial details. If it hardly ever makes the predicted returns they could still be paying it off in 20 years. Hasn't the NHS got bigger things to worry about right now?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?
