| 100 Swansea City fans vote on Steve Cooper’s future ! on 09:57 - Jun 1 with 524 views | Catullus | Interesting but here's a thought, Cooper has relied on contacts and loaned in several players who were with him in the U17's for England. We have moved on a few years now though, those players are either first teamers at their clubs or looking for a first team spot even if that means moving. The number of young players he can loan is decreasing as time passes. Doesn't that mean (assuming he stays) he will have to find some permanent signings and/or be looking to loan players he hasn't worked with so doesn't know? Maybe some fans would rather take a chance on relegation than watch another season of that dross? Personally I certainly look more for entertainment and worry less about success these days. That's not to say I want us relegated but I can't stomach success at any price either! Our owners, being American, view sport a different way to us Brits. Theystruggle to grasp promotion and relegation, I think they struggle with the transfer market too, it's not how sport Stateside works after all, they have closed shop leagues and the "draft" which is vastly different to our system. Maybe the owners need to leave a European 100% in charge of day to day running. The spending rules can remain but the choice of players who leave or are signed should stay firmly in the hands of people who understand the system? Then, if Cooper stays or goes, or whoever replaces him, they can stand or fall on results but there has to be an emphasis on entertainment too, good football. After all, having spent the last season being roundly bored by the offerings, will young fans want to come back? Will we attract new fans? If we don't, what does the future hold? | |
