Northampton's old county ground was in a sorry state in its final days. It had long had only three sides because of the ground share with the country cricket club (rather like St Helen's), but then a fire had destroyed the main stand on the opposite side of the ground. A small temporary (Meccano) stand was erected in its place. It is interesting to reflect that Northampton played in the first division in 1965-66 with the three sided ground, erecting temporary stands on the cricket side for big games. I was at 3 nil loss at Oxford when Brian Murphy was in goal my car was one of the only ones without a parking ticket. The mcalpine stadium Huddersfield was three sided when it was first built i was there when we lost 2 0. Also Mansfield the year we won the league 2 title we won 1 0. | | | |
