| Return of the inverted full backs killed us 22:25 - Nov 25 with 2641 views | Joesus_Of_Narbereth | Full backs stepping into centre midfield when we had the ball. Left our flanks completely exposed and Cabango having to step out to deal with wingers. Especially our right flank with Ronald and Cullen giving the ball away stupidly at every opportunity. Key just doesn’t have the footballing intelligence or ability to play such a role. Both their goals came from that side it’s no coincidence. If we are to persist with this system we need a right back who can actually do it. Perhaps Galbraith could fill that role for now until we get someone decent in. | |

| Return of the inverted full backs killed us on 09:48 - Nov 26 with 1867 views | swan65split | Its been our downfall for a season or 2 , the old overlapping fullbacks attempting to make the crosses etc for our fowards, because of our poor wide forwards, last night was an example severla times the rams broke down one flank, like sheep our defenders followed them only to leave the oppositte flank open for a rams runner , its been happenning for a while teams have worked us out, thats why we are ATM we are freaked, Good luck to the manager hes going to need it, ome players here wont be here long , they possibly know it, hence the lack of desire, | | | |

Possibly if our wingers did their job properly, our full backs wouldn't need to push up so much and get caught with the ball behind them. Tymon also got caught several times last night. [Post edited 26 Nov 11:51]

The wingers are immaterial ,Key and Tymon are poor defenders ,positionaly and can’t tackle ,they leave wingers have too much time and space to attack, opposition teams are aware of this weakness and exploit it every game it’s so frustrating

More often than not they put the ball behind them when they are upfield, but football is all about opinions.

Benson, Fulton, jury is out on Eom, Starmenic and Inoussa for me, Smith is young and needs to play more Burgess is a worry, Casey is a work in progress. The squad isn't looking anywhere near to what we need, IMO

Hoping Santos can come in and offer something different. He’s a bit of a forgotten man but comes with a good rep.

Burgess is broke Compare him Now with how he was against Forest He can play but we’ve broken him EOM offered little but flatters Benson has been spectacular at times for Burnley but looks deadbeat for us The teams have been wrong and tactics accordingly These players can be far better than what we’ve seen however

Burgess has his limitations he always has, there is a reason Ipswich replaced him and rarely played him in the Premier League. In my opinion he is slow to get in position, lacks awareness and can't play the ball out.

This is why Matos is impressive at the moment, he sees exactly where the issues are, if he gets the counter press right and then the players deliver it as he wants we will all see a huge difference in that alone. We must remember he has had one full training session and that was yesterday. Minday was introductions and training, Tuesday is never a full training day on the day of a game. The warm downs and injury assessments accompanied by a post match walk through on Wednesday keft just Thursday as a full training session. I expect but haven't asked they will as per usual be travelling this afternoon after training this morning. A full week of training next week is vital.

The was a lot of signalling from the technical area from Matos to the players on Tuesday. Particularly who he wanted to push closer, what line he wanted players to hold and when he wanted to increase the intensity. There was also applause for players when they did what he was looking for. He was certainly more animated than we have seen recently.

Well I’m not disagreeing with any of that Nobody had been dismissed after one game Note that We L want Vitor to succeed I think he can I’m certain some players will be found out by him It’s about hope It’s also time for all fans to come together We’re all on this together at least mentally

We just need to keep it simple ,defend the flanks better and mark the wide men tighter, don’t overplay at the back ,players in the middle moving and looking for space to receive the ball and turning upfield when they get it ,moving the ball forward quicker ,through the middle and out wide We can do it

Did you watch him in the 25 minutes he was on the pitch? I did and that's why I came out with tbe battleship comment because thats how slow he is. With games he might get quicker but I seriously doubt it, the comments ive got from Bolton fans o know arent generous.

Centre backs don’t always need to be quick though. Cabango and Burgess are also a bit cumbersome and slow on the turn although Cabango does have good recovery pace when he gets going. Most of our goals conceded are coming from crosses/set pieces and he is 6’5 ish perhaps that’s exactly what we need? I’m not sure writing off a player coming back from a long injury for 25 minutes in a game we’ve already lost is a fair assessment.

It is pointless have “ quick” centre halves when they can’t defend, their basic function Same with full backs All our defenders are limited They most certainly cannot pass accurately consistently Cam and Ben have to cover from our full backs, the very worst defenders in this league I see pitiful “ support”for both these because one can cross a ball, the other , well, looks like he might but loses the ball It’s the bloody basics , again Cabango is a decent stopper as is Burgess Vig is a good goalkeeper They have all been playing poorly It’s got to stop

Tymon has pleasantly surprised me I think he’s one of the better left backs in the league, Key has regressed though to a pathetic level, whether it’s confidence or he just wasn’t good enough in the first place I don’t know but he doesn’t seem to have any defensive awareness whatsoever. When he first came he was playing on the left and skipping past players for fun I don’t know what happened to him. Perhaps being the only right back at the club has bred complacency because he knows he’s gonna get picked no matter what.
