Pumping countless millions into a club called Rangers (A new club formed only 2 years ago and play in the Scottish lower leagues) whilst Newcastle are going down the shi7ter. Would you be slightly narked if you were paying £50 a ticket for the owner to divert it to another club?

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
Poll: Should Dippy Drakeford do us all a massive favour and just bog off?

He has managed to get the rights to name the Stadium and is apparently just about in control of the retail side at Rangers...not sure what the end target is, but how the hell they managed to get in this state 2 years down the line is astonishing.

Word in the north east is that his end target is primary control of Rangers and selling up at Newcastle. Bit like selling Microsoft and buying your local corner shop.

Apparently he can't own both and would rather own Rangers...

Poll: Some scummer on the anus board reckons 80% of us want them to go down. so... do

It'll probably cost him a lot less to get Rangers into Europe rather than Newcastle? Then he renames Ibrox the Sports Direct stadium, rebrands the ground, plus he owns all the merchandising. The worldwide Rangers brand is still massive, Newco, Sevco, whatever...

Shrewd business to be honest.

True, he won't have to invest anywhere near as much on the field to be able to win trophies in Scotland and get into the champions league and grow the brand from there. As you say, it's a huge brand, the question is, in the long term, are both old firm brands in decline due to the league they play in? I saw Celtic had around 20k empty seats on the weekend.

That's just the case at the moment with no real competition up there, once Rangers get back up normal service will resume for those two.

On the bright side, Hearts are making it as difficult as possible for Rangers at the moment, long may it continue.

Self inflicted wounds, so absolutely no sympathy. Also paying the players and management too much money. I honestly thought that they would be back in the premier division, winning promotion in all the lower divisions.

No worries, Hearts are showing them the right way to do it...had their problems and now living within their means, oh, and unbeaten at the top of the league

Popping down later?

Is ashley as bad as people are makimg out?

Its common knowledge he has kept newcastle afloat and charged zero interest on his loans, he has also said that he is willing to sell it to the fans if they come up with the cash, he decided he wasnt going to throw any more money at them but has still kept them solid and returned them to a much brighter financial state.

Not sure what newcastle fans want really, they threw money away for years and the end result was massive debt and relegation .

Newcastle are now at least commercially viable and turning a profit.

If ashley gets rangers he gets a potential champions league club with a massive fan base and it would cost him alot less.

Well, all apart from the approx £100 million they owe Ashley in loans, you are right. But that £100 million debt to Ashley is probably a stumbling block if he is looking to sell.

Yes but that 100m is what he has used to stop them going tits up . The previous regime put them into debt and in fairness to ashley he has made them a much better buisness.

Of course being a buisness mn he will be thinking about money but he hasnt exactly taken the club to the cleaners either.

Thats the money he put in so if somebody wants to buy them he is willing to clear off and reclaim his investment minus any interest, as club owners go he isnt the worst .

No dount that it will ne a sticking point in any sale but in fairness to him he hasnt raped the club like many other owners have done.

Not that i really care one way or the other mind !
