I go on holiday and return to find several politics threads. Well in case you are in any doubt they are all as bad as each other. Here's three big issues facing the country as examples in no particular order: Foreign Policy: Select your party and the flawed armed intervention of choice over the last 30 years. Ageing Population: No strategy from many governments over the decades creating huge gaps in social care and pension provision in favour of short term political tactics. Tax and Spend: A repeated cycle of tax and spend followed by economic intervention including deregulation that leaves us with an unbalanced debt based economy, printing money disguised as QE, unsustainable in work benefits that indirectly subsidise big business, a system that fails to redistribute wealth effectively and hospitals struggling to pay loans. Billy Connolly had the answer: anyone who wants to be a politician needs to be automatically prevented from standing for office.
