He won the final too if memory serves me correctly.

"The Flying Postman" won the "Rumbelows Sprint Challenge" at Wembley in 1992., in time of 11.49 seconds.

The rest of the field was made up by Michael Gilkes (Reading), Tony Witter (QPR), Leigh Jenkinson (Hull), Adrian Littlejohn (Sheffield United), Efan Ekoku (Bournemouth) and Paul Fleming (Mansfield).

He received a winners cheque for £10,000 and a new television set from Rumbelows.

How he won the final I'll never know, not because he wasn't fast, but he got paralytic drunk the night before!! He had decided to take Jon Ford to accompany him at the hotel. It was Jon Ford's birthday the day of the final, so they celebrated in their hotel the night before, especially when they found out there was a free bar. 🍻🍻

One drink led to another, and they didn't go to bed until approx 3am. Well, saying bed, John Williams woke up in the morning in the bath and being sick!! 😂😂

They eventually got to Wembley, severely hungover and late.

The rest is history.

He said that he was mesmerised by a young lad doing "Keepie Uppies" on the sideline, and was caught out at the start.

That young lad ?? ... 18 year old Ryan Giggs!!
