| The worship of wind 19:21 - Mar 28 with 942 views | Lorax | AFD has often pointed out the lunacy f over reliance on wind. For my part I believe in a mixture of renewable sources with nuclear back up but think we should be doing more with solar and tidal than wind and now there's this, https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/other/madness-of-our-worship-of-wind-they-add-6b To be fair, it proves AFD is right about wind and those figures are actually much worse than I expected. Only 4% of our electricity comes from wind and over 6 billion per year is spent subsidising this monstrosity of an industry. How many solar panels could they have put on houses at 6 billion per year? But then, if they put solar panels on our houses for free their rich friends wouldn't be creaming off the profits! All of this, Wind, Solar and Tidal, it should be nationalised so there's no subsidies. All profits should be going to the exchequer not to the greedy, rich, corporate clowns who own most of the shares. | | | | |

It is 4% ot total energy use. ie Gas Heating Transport Industrial processes etc What it means is they were to electrify everything as they want to do that 4% would be the factor involved. Electricity only wind is usually around 26%, but currently 1.34% [Post edited 28 Mar 2022 20:08]

It is most needed in the morning and in the evening. Plus of course you don't get any at night. Plus they all come from China made using mostly Coal generated electricity [Post edited 28 Mar 2022 20:24]

Not all, I did post recently about a break through in solar tech that, if it comes to fruition, will make it much easier to supply and use solar technology. The winter would be the problem with solar, during the long days it could provide quite a bit but thats where tidal with nuclear back up comes in. We'd still need battery storage though. It's about finding the right mix is all.

Until we can get rid of the throwaway culture I doubt if anything will improve. It's utterly ridiculous that it is cheaper to replace expensive items than get them repaired. TV's, washing machines, laptops. a small repair costs a fortune and pushes you to buy new. Were as guilty of it as anyone. Saying that, we had a Tv that was just a few weeks past it's warranty when the backlight went, I think I'd posted on here about it. PC world wanted £85 just to look at it then there was the price of repair. I eventually took it over to a place I'd used before, when I was a Postman and used to work in Sketty, it's called Western radio, just off Eversley Rd. he told me the solder had failed, largely because it was a crap job with barely enough solder to hold things in place and meant it was made to breakdown quickly. He charged me £70 but he guaranteed the work. Things are designed to break quickly and be replaced, at our expense. It all needs to change. I'm thinking of wind farms there too, in the link I posted I think it says most wind turbines will need replacing in 15 years and the costs and eco damage incurred makes wind power untenable.

Inflation got her in the end, she put a cork in to store up some stock but sadly she inflated and burst like a balloon. Or, that didn't happen and people just lost interest, gone with the wind so to speak.
