It is ,I agree,quite ludicrous ,but it's big business and that is the interest for the region I live. Thousands would visit and for several days.We might even go over and join in the many street party events that will go on. Liverpool always puts on a good show and most scousers like to think they are singers,poets,actors or writers and are rarely shy. Anyone joining in is welcomed and those who appear to be snotty/posh or up their own arse gets it in the neck.
Ive spoken to those from Cruise ships who have said it is the best Port of Call by a country mile as they can walk right into the city centre which you can't in many Cruise ports.
