Simon is a cracking comedian as well.

Anyone else seen the FIFA doc on Netflix?

Based on that, I actually have some slight sympathy for Blatter as I don't think he was particularly in favour of Qatar getting the WC. Definitely seems to have been down to Jack Warner and Platini with a slight assist from the French Government.

Having said that, it was a direct result of the venal, self serving system set up by Havelange and propogated by Blatter that led Fifa to that position so he definitely had a role in it.

Was most amusing to see how many Fifa bigwigs realised how f*cked they were because Qatar beat out the US and the US Justice Department would definitely be paying more attention to them.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Maybe he should have spoken up and said something, he is as culpable as anyone by saying nothing regards Platini, etc. Rotten to the core.

Blatter was not alone. FIFA is a democratic organisation and Qatar won it on a democratic vote. If FIFA is dodgy they were dodgy for all preceding World cups as well including England in 1966. Germany, Argentina, South Africa, Korea Japan , Brasil and the rest.

The World cup has exposed the bad hiring processes and the appalling treatment of Asian migrant worker in Arabia. There is an awful lot of construction in Arabia over the last 40 years. All these abuses were forgotten about before it seems. At least the WC 2022 has exposed it at a grisly cost.

FIFA has a huge office in Switzerland and paid handsomely. Surely by now they would have set basic minimum requirement for eligibility to hold tournaments. Consultant would have warned them in advance of the archaic construction practices in Arabia. All contractors could have been given basic western contracts as part of due diligence (FIFA approved contracts).

In future should all future WC be 'gay friendly'? If that happens the tournament ceases to be a World cup. A large portion of the World has oppressive law as against gay lifestyles. Some countries will offer 'gay friendly games' for 1 month timescale to get around this.

Indonesia and Morocco would rules themselves out on that basis. Turkiye are currently bringing in "family friendly "new laws.
