Violent conduct ban against Manning v Bristol City 22:04 - Mar 24 with 1416 viewsKeithHaynes

Bristol City will be without winger Mark Sykes for the Championship clash with Reading next week after he was handed a four-match ban by the Football Association.

Sykes has been given the suspension after a case of violent conduct was brought by the FA in relation to an incident in the 81st minute of Bristol City's 2-0 defeat to Swansea City on Sunday.

Sykes contested the charge, but it was found to be proven by an independent regulatory commission following a hearing and the Bristol City man has now been given a four-match suspension, which begins with Reading's visit to Ashton Gate on Saturday, April 1.

In a statement, the FA said: “The midfielder’s behaviour was not seen by the match officials at the time, but it was caught on camera, and the FA subsequently alleged that it constitutes violent conduct.

"Mark Sykes denied the charge against him, but it was found to be proven by an independent regulatory commission following a hearing and a four-match suspension applies.

"The standard punishment for violent conduct is a three-match suspension. However, a four-match suspension applies in this case as Mark Sykes was sent off earlier this season."

I still cannot understand as to why Manning received a yellow card that clearly should have been rescinded, he did nothing wrong.

Standard of Refereeing in the Championship is akin to Laurel and Hardy running the shambles.

The officials failure to notice, possibly the only group in the stadium, could have had a serious impact on the result. Not good enough to hand out bans. Points addition or removal should be considered.

Manning got the yellow card for rightly objecting to the violent conduct against him but you can't take the law into your own hands and yet if he hadn't maybe the violent conduct would have been overlooked because a revue of the incident after the game may not have been deem necessary.
Missed by the game officials but it is all part of the game to distract or point out their mistakes into giving your team an advantage either on or off the park.

The referee was incompetent throughout.

He is not alone in putting in an incompetent performance at the stadium. There have been too many to mention over the last few seasons. In fact the number of that have been competent are actually in a small minority - it is worth pointing out that they get absolutely zero help from the linesmen who regularly wait on the referees to make decisions about throw-ins & get as many offside decisions wrong as they do right. Totally inept at this level

I thought Manning received his yellow for catching the heel of Sykes which caused him to fall that's when he lashed out at Manning ?

Piroe clipped him and got out of dodge, Bristol City lad thought it was Manning.
I saw it but never thought it was a red at the time but clearly watching it later it was.

Ref had a terrible game but got the main call correct, the penalty call for me.
