This is a superb review by Olle, it’s such a shame there’s people out there who are misled to thinking otherwise.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Great report, Olle! I really liked watching the Swans in the 1st half. Swans link-up play was superb but the finishing was awful. Elijah Just, Lissah, and Widell were standouts, as was Opaku, and sometimes Yeo. Idah linked up well but again lacked finishing.

When Widell got his yellow card, his play dropped considerably. Brum's press in the 2nd half really disrupted our fluid play and forced turnovers. Opaku lost his rhythm/timing and became mediocre. Stamenic, as you said, was too deep, and you could really see the drop off when Fulton came on. You're correct, they don't seem to play well together. It probably should be one or the other, and not both together.

Very good if not so brief synopsis of the game given as he saw the game.
Matos sees the problem in the middle of the midfield and really needs to find a player who is a mix of Stamenic and Fulton, is that why he has opted to play then both later in the game. I think we saw last year better results when replacing one with the other either way round, we must remember that the midfield has been unsettled with the loss of Franco and the introduction of Just, that is not a criticism of him as he seems to have some nice qualities, Lissah most certainly does add to the team, the question of Walta who seems to have a level of control and understanding high up the park does he get a start? Too many options in the midfield or not the right player in the sitting role in need of someone who understands his defensive role but can show an awareness of the game around him to get the ball forward effectively, Lissah?

Thank you!

Link-up play was indeed really nice in the first half, we were "fluid", as Matos would've put it.
As you said, after Widell's yellow he seemed to become more timid, obviously worried about a second booking. i do think he can fill that number eight role though, he just needs some better decision making, but I can see why Matos plays him in Franco's absence, he's the only player who can replicate Franco's frenetic energy off the ball.

I think Stamenic + Fulton as a combo should be locked away. They lack long passing range and ability to drive with the ball and this makes it really difficult for us to take space with them.

Lissah in midfield is very interesting...
As you pointed out, we ought to remember that our midfield has one new player and a starter missing, give them a couple more games and we can start to evaluate properly. With that said, I still think Stamenic + Fulton shouldn't even be considered...
