I'll be interested in the turn out in this election. It's very much been on the low side since the turn of the century and I wouldn't be surprised if this one is too.

There's an increasing number of people who have lost all faith in the political process and they're quite likely not to vote. And who can blame them? That and the inevitability of a Labour landslide is certain to have an effect.

Departures in the development squad

Well not quite. Sam Manufor and Conor Clark were recently announced as moving up from the U18s to the Dev squad. Last season Jake Leahy and Alfie Tuck gradually made their way up too.

Hear, hear. I continue to listen to Steely Dan and Fagan's solo albums after all these years. Perfection is what they did.

Eze for England!
at 08:16 4 Jun 2024

Eze MotM on the BBC and Guardian websites, and some great compliments were made about him such as Leon Osman saying: "Eze is unique. He can glide with the ball and he can beat four players at a time. There are not many players that can do that, they are the types of players you need to unlock the door."

I think Eze has put himself on the plane, so to speak, but I am very biased. Even if he's not a starter, bringing him on for the last 20 minutes in a tight game would be a better option than most if not all others.

Is it clear yet whether a start in a friendly triggers that extra Palace payment?

I think we'll need a few more than just an RB. That may depend on whether there's any more coming up from the 18s but at the moment I make it just 15 players in the Dev Squad.

How I miss him still. Some of those goals are pure poetry.

And I was only thinking today how well Cifuentes would have worked with Eze.

Eze for England!

Clickbait rumour today: Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has met with Crystal Palace’s sporting director Dougie Freedman in London to explore their position on the possibility of selling England defender Marc Guehi, 23, England midfielder Eberechi Eze, 25, and France Under-21 winger Michael Olise, 22, this summer. (Football Insider)

And the Mirror reports: Palace will move for Leeds' Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville, 22, if they have to sell Olise or Eze this summer.

And, of course, will Eze feature in Southgate's side v B&H this evening?

Life changing moments
at 19:08 2 Jun 2024

There are amazing stories in this thread - thanks so much for sharing them. I thought I'd post this one of mine - a little different perhaps.

In the mid 80s I visited South Africa, which at the time was still under the apartheid regime. I was there to see a township orphanage and traveled through Durban, a stunning holiday place with beautiful beaches, hotels, restaurants etc, to the Inanda township on the edge of the city. On reaching Inanda I was shocked at the poverty. I'd never seen anything like it before. Inanda and Durban were utterly different worlds yet just a few miles apart.

The orphanage was just a small mudbrick house. People had built it on the side of a mudbrick church to accommodate a group of children, some very young, who had wandered into the area. The children were from Mozambique and had walked for many days to escape a civil war there at the time. They had all lost their parents in the conflict.

The children sang to welcome us and as they did I wept my heart out. The poverty, the injustice, and the desperation I'd seen, together with the selfless kindness of the people looking after these children had deeply affected me and I resolved that I'd do something about it. As a result, some years later I managed to change jobs and got into working in International Development.

I used to pop in there back in mid 70s. Always felt a bit edgy and when I last visited earlier this year it felt a bit the same. Do they still have live Irish folk music?

Pavlovian Trigger. A little known 80s East German synth band whose only album, Dachshund Spit, could get you arrested by the Stasi if you had it.

Earworms

With so many music heads on here, I'm wondering if there are some who, like me, have constant earworms; that is songs always playing in their heads?

My current earworm is Midnight Train to Georgia by Gladys Knight and the Pips which I've had for several days. I don't mind too much as it's such a great song.

What's yours at the moment?

So the functional detail of how sewage is being discharged into rivers is more important than the fact that water companies are illegally polluting our waterways? Bizarre. As is your attempt to deflect this onto Trans issues.
