Sorry if my point wasn't clear. There is no such thing as a free lunch similarly no such thing as a free transfer.
As you state not paying a transfer fee means that what would have been paid to a club can now be paid to a player in wages and/or signing on fees. |

I think the subject is a difficult one. He is from Derry and it is clear that events from 1972 are still an open sore for some parts of the community there. None of us can know how we would react if we came from that background.
I would just hope that I could act a lot more maturely than he does if I was in his shoes. |

Luke Williams says he is excited about the opportunity the summer holds for Swansea City as the current campaign nears its conclusion.
The 2023-24 season has proved a challenging one for the Swans, with head coach Williams being at the helm since his January appointment.
Attempting to implement a new style of play halfway through a gruelling Championship schedule has not been easy, but there have been signs of encouragement, particularly in the recent improvement in home form and away wins against the likes of Hull City and Sunderland
But, while the on-pitch focus remains firmly on the final three games of the current season, Williams is positive about what strides can be made during the summer and a first full pre-season in charge.
“I am excited, we have an opportunity,” he said.
“We all have to be really excited about trying to get a really competitive group of players together and having a clear identity and way of playing.
“We will see how far that takes us. That has to be exciting for everyone.
“We have to be accurate in the work we do as a group of people, in terms of assessing the players and the personalities we are going to have here.
“We want to make sure the people we have here are the right fit.” |

There's no assumption that the PSG and Barcelona players refused to give an interview to the Spanish TV station Movistar plus because of the remark. There is also no assumption that the pundit that made the remark was sacked for it.
The only person that knows what he intended by his remark is German Burgos. Whatever he meant by it, there is no assumption that the players of both clubs found it offensive. |

I assume that it's on the lines of if he doesn't play well he won't make it as a footballer and end up hustling car drivers to wash their windscreens (or similar) when they are stuck at traffic lights. The suggestion is that this is what immigrants do.
It's not a nice comment that only had relevance to the players background and had nothing to do with the game. |

I like Grimes but the balance in midfield is not there. I believe that Joe was the replacement for Downes but due to injuries he hasn't played enough.
Walsh has also been injured so managers have been forced into a Grimes and Fulton combination which in my opinion does not work well enough if we are looking to push on
Big decisions needed regarding central midfield in my view. |

I think that he is a good club captain but not a team captain.
A club captain can lead by example off the pitch where he can encourage and inspire and forge links with the community but when you cross the white line different skills are needed. IMHO to be a captain on the pitch you have to do more, you have to understand everyone's roles, encourage when team mates are doing well and call them out if they aren't doing it. You have to be aware of what you are doing as well so not to be seen as a hypocrite. You don't have to be physically intimidating but in my experience it helps.
There isn't a team captain in the squad and that has been a major problems for years. |

Indeed - QPR being a fine example where bringing him off the bench would have given their defence something to think about.
There is bound to be speculation about why he hasn't been given game time apart from injuries- playing for Ukraine U21 in Japan came as a shock.
Is there a clause in his contract that additional monies need to be paid if he hits a certain number of appearance's or minutes this season? Is he unable to grasp our tactics (he wouldn't be alone if that was the case): is his hold up play not up to scratch or does he not train well? Is he continually late for training or has he taken half a house brick to training? is it something disciplinary that he has done off the pitch?
It has the feeling that Williams is under orders not to give him much game time as he seems reluctant to discuss the elephant in the room.
Sadly Jerry Yates has been a massive disappointment. Did we watch him before we signed him or was it just stats based? His confidence is shot, but defenders seem to have an easy game against him.
We are now playing with 2 wingers, getting crosses into the box but are not playing a forward that could trouble defenders and get on the end of them, even though we appear to have such a forward on our books.
All speculation of course, but that's what happens when you have a misfiring attack and a striker that we have allegedly paid comparatively big money for that can't get any game time. |

I agree. Whilst there are other issues, we would be in a much better position if we had central strikers that could hold the ball up and stick it in the net.
Yates does not fit into this team and as for the invisible Ukrainian???
We apparently spent £4.5 million on those two and should have got a lot more for that money. |

Connor Barron appeared to be a last minute attempt, presumably after others or their clubs had turned down our approaches or we had found their demands -fees and or wages too high. we looked to strengthen midfield but it didn't happen.
The ongoing rumours about Kukharevych also suggest that we were probably in the market for a striker but needed to move a player on to make it happen.
January is not the best time for recruitment especially when a club is nowhere near the top of a league, so difficult to make a judgement on this window.
The underlying problem was our summer recruitment. One of our left backs and a left back/left centre back moved on with no/little game time. A centre forward who appears to do no more than make up numbers on the bench and loan signings some of whom have hardly set the world on fire. |
