Listening to Paul Merson talking about Arsenal playing Declan Rice at full back.
He said that playing a player of his calibre there was wasting him because you have to win the midfield battle to win football games and he has far more influence in mid field than at full back.

The same could be said of Galbraith.

Swansea City : There simply is no fairness in football or accountability

Kitching the Cov player kicked the ball away deliberately delaying a free kick. Wasn't even booked . Same thing happened earlier in the day at St Andrews the Derby player was immediately shown a yellow card. Later on in that game that same Derby player committed a foul and was then sent off for a second yellow . That ultimately cost Derby the 3 points because they then had to play the vast majority of the game with 10 men - Brum later equalising .

I said in the prematch comments that set pieces could be key in this game .I was proved right Cov have scored more goals from set pieces than any championship team. I also said that we would have very few chances and that we would have to take at least one of them which proved true.

The thing with Cullen is he wont put his head in where it hurts which you have to do as a striker. He should have buried that chance he had with his head it was a certain goal. Watch how Callum O Hare scored with his head against Wrexham . Compare the two .
Matos' reaction on the bench said it all.

I don't think it is overrated because it is very important especially in the championship which is a physical league . I have just read an overview of Birmingham's match v Sheffield UTD by a reporter , quote " This is a question we keep coming back to. There’s no doubt Blues have some excellent technicians and in Patrick Roberts, Jay Stansfield and Demarai Gray they have attackers who can conjure up moments of magic, but are they actually built to succeed in the Championship?

The answer to that question, based on the evidence of their last two away games, is no.

They don’t have the physicality, power and athleticism that good Championship teams have in abundance. QPR’s XI looked inferior to Blues’ on paper, but they were tough, rugged and aerially dominant to bully their way to three points. Sheffield United have more quality than QPR, but the XI Chris Wilder selected had enough nastiness about it to accommodate quality players like Hamer, Callum O’Hare and Tahith Chong. There isn’t an abundance of leaders inside Blues’ dressing room. Christoph Klarer is the captain and one player who will always show up.

It’s all well and good playing lovely football in the sanctuary of St Andrew’s, where 27,000 people are right behind you, but if you can’t tough it out on the road then you aren’t going to get very far. "

Brum are finding out this league is not the cakewalk league 1 was . The step up in pace and physicality is starting to manifest itself. Cov are without doubt the most physical / athletic side in the division the best way to beat them is not take them on at their own game but play the fast accurate clever passes . Movement off the ball will be key . Treasure possession and don't give it up easily . Take the chance when it comes because there may not be many and defend the box like the Alamo.

Iam not disputing your last sentence at all . In my previous post I stressed the way to beat Cov was by crisp fast accurate passing . That means we have to get the ball away from our danger zones and attack quickly - the ball will have to be moved at pace .

Your last sentence hits the nail on the head .We are not going to beat Cov in a power game they are a big athletic powerful team . We will have to use crisp fast accurate passing in the final third to move them around . I would play Yalcouye behind Vipotnik and bring Galbraith into midfield put Samuels Smith / Parker at right back . Set piece we will have to be switched on as Cov have scored more from corners than any championship team

With a steady supply line of crosses and opportunities he will score . The problem is the supply has been poor , overhit , too slow inaccurate . He needs better service and that is down to the midfielders/wingers who need to up their game.
West Brom have started to score again because they have a natural goalscorer brought in from Norway Aune Hegabo They have moved Grant out wide who has pace and have Johnson on the other .He is getting a good steady supply and putting chances away. If they can stop concediing goals at the other end they will shoot up the table.Thats what we need improve the supply line and Tighten up the defence especially right hand side

Swansea City v Wrexham : Match day thread UPDATED

Great post , I was listening to John Eustace last night after Derby had demolished Wednesday 3-0 . He was downplaying the "euphoria" of the win stating that the championship is a unique league that provides unique challenges that have to be overcome in each and every game . It's about adapting to face every opponent and then concentrating on the next challenge around the corner. Very grounded guy who i think will have Derby in or around the play-offs at the end of the season.

I said a few weeks back if you get the ball early to Vipotnik and let him get across his man he will score a hatful. Widell came on late v Stoke and attacked at pace down the left a perfect early ball and bang it was in the net . We didn't do that again in the match not once - we should have exploited it to the max. . That was the weakness Stoke had , they couldn't defend the pace and early cross , few teams can if its done well. What we need to do in training is get the wingers /widdell breaking at speed and crossing it low and hard to Vipotnik he will do the rest. That's all they need to do just practise and more practise until it becomes second nature. Vipotnik and to a lesser extent Idah have been starved of those sorts of opportunities attack at pace before the opponents are set .
If Ronald and Eom can't do it get Wilson back cos I think he's another Dave Thomas in the making too small for a centre forward but has the pace to be a winger /attacking midfielder . Onwards and upwards with Matos.

Well Wales are meant to tread water seriously though I think he could add something he has dynamism is quick with good feet get him back ! Wales in my mind should have had more game time too . Idah and Cullen have hardly been tearing it up.
