EFL players refusing to be vaccinated is cause for concern ?
Thursday, 16th Dec 2021 17:33 by Keith Haynes

The English football league has released data covering the amount of EFL players who are unvaccinated, or will not and have refused to be vaccinated this evening. It has been greeted with some surprise due to the amount of players involved.

The EFL have also confirmed the criteria for postponing fixtures, with teams required to play so long as they have 14 available first-team players, including a goalkeeper, the same threshold used in Uefa competition. The statement said: “This guidance has been designed to help Clubs ensure the safety of players and staff, while ensuring that the fixture schedule can be maintained wherever possible. Where any Club states it cannot fulfil a fixture, a report shall be filed with the EFL, and the circumstances reviewed. On vaccination, the EFL is encouraging all eligible players and staff to get fully vaccinated and a booster jab to help protect colleagues and minimise the risk of fixtures being postponed. The EFL will also be supporting the Government’s ‘Get Boosted Now’ campaign over the coming weeks.”

News today is that one in four players within the three divisions of the football league remain unvaccinated or will not under any circumstances get any type of vaccination. Support or otherwise for these players will be reflected by those within the U.K. population who are not vaccinated, or believe every person has a right to choose. Ten per cent of the U.K. population remain unvaccinated as of today.

If this is cause for the amount of games being called off today for tonight and indeed for the weekend it isn’t known. Does an unvaccinated player have more potential to pass on the virus than a vaccinated player ? That very much depends on who you talk to from the medical field competent and qualified to reference these matters.

As it stands twenty five per cent of players remain unvaccinated, and it’s clear that not every club has followed the EFL guidance on training for vaccinated and unvaccinated players, or indeed if that makes a difference ?

As it stands the football calendar is slowly being affected as a result of the increases of the COVID-19 virus. Make of that what you will.

What are your thoughts on this latest development ?

I raised this the other day. Mass postponement of big days like boxing day and NYD games costs huge money. It is probably cheaper to send the un vaccinated home on 'gardening leave' for two months until the Omnicom variant is done.
