Leo Walta : Swans close down other clubs plus Stamenić inquiry
Friday, 30th Jan 2026 17:07 by Liam Walters

The news this morning of Leo Walta a player at IK Sirius in the Allsvenskan league in Sweden surfaced much to the displeasure of Swansea City FC. The Swans have done a bit of shopping around Northern Europe since Adam Worth took over as the main recruitment man at Swansea. It is a goldmine at times for clubs willing to put the work in to bring in players.

But the news is out, so here is what we have gathered over time.

Walta (below) has all the qualities that Swans head coach, Vitor Matos is looking for we are told. He has excellent long ball vision, pace and skill on the ball to beat a player. At twenty two he has featured numerous times for the Finland international side. Last time out for his country he scored in a 4-0 win against Andorra. The only additional thing we have learned since he was first looked at in October by the Swans is that this news getting out will alert others as to his availability. However, there has been considerable effort put in to preventing that. The expectation this afternoon is to get him to Swansea as a matter of urgency. Having watched the player for some months Worth & Co made a move earlier on in this window with CEO Tom Gorringe making all the noises to agree a deal.

The times the Swans have watched Walta he has been the player of the match. Against Malmo he scored two and had an assist and against Elfsborg he did exactly the same. In fact twice last season. The Swedish campaign ended in November.

The details of course won’t be known until the ink is dry on his contract but we believe it is a permanent deal, and yes, like every deal done these days it will be a down payment with numerous add ons. We have gone into that in-depth over the last week on this site with good guidance from those who support this website.

Can it fall apart ?
Yes of course it can, our last news was it isn’t complete, but with Melker Widell and Zeidane Inoussa at the club, despite being Swedish they both know the Allsvenskan well. Melker was a part of the Malmo squad as a youngster that won that league in 2021. Profit and sustainability is always an issue but the Swans wouldn’t be this far down the road with Walta without it all being signed off to complete the deal by majority owners, Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen. Both are pleased with the majority of the signings made over the past year or so. Marko Stamenic, Melker Widell, Ethan Galbraith, Zeidane Inoussa and to an extent, Cameron Burgess have added value to this current Swansea squad. There is also an eye on the fact that Malick Yalcouyé, Gustavo Nunes, Joel Ward, Ricardo Santos and Ishé Samuels-Smith are unlikely to be at the club next season. With Kaelan Casey and Manuel Benson gone there is also room for another loan player easily.

Yesterday Matos stated he was happy with what he had already and played his cards very close to his chest naming players he can slot into certain positions. That won’t deter the Swans striving for improvement this transfer window, it’s an ever improving effort to bring the right players in for Matos at his behest. As is protocol these days he states where he needs strengthening and the rest of the work is done by the recruitment side.

This would be a great signing for Swansea City if Walta can match his efforts of last season, below is the highlights reel of Leo Walta. Make your own mind up.

⚽️ Exclusive : We have heard from our own sources this afternoon that the Swans have had inquiries for details on Marko Stamenić, We have no other detail other than that at this moment in time but will do some work on that to keep you up to date. Marko signed for the Swans for just over two million pounds in the summer from Nottingham Forest.

One has to expect a rise up the table in the second half. Russell Martin was miffed at no new players a couple of year back in January but still went on a good run once he got over his disappointment after an initial slump.
