Will the Swans try the free agent market ? We have the latest exclusive news Monday, 5th Oct 2026 17:21 by Keith Haynes Swansea City are looking into the free agent market at the behest of Vitor Matos who has identified a few issues within his squad at the current time we have been told. Targets who play right side midfield / right wing have been reviewed, plus or including an all round utility player who has recent Premier League experience. There are a couple of players who are struggling with the environment and the Swans fast start to this seasons Championship campaign. The belief is that one more player with the qualities we have mentioned will carry through until January at least. We could name a few players but that’s not our way when it is revealed to us that a new recruit may come in. For some evidence of this or exclusive stories on transfers over the past two years put in any connected name into our search engine and read what we were saying at the time. If it’s a player with qualities to play right sided or indeed midfield (utility) even in defence then you would see the reasons why Matos may want another recruit into the squad. And there are players out there who fit these wide parameters. Right sided the Swans have Eom and Ronald who have already played this season with on loan player from Manchester City, Jeremy Monga not featuring at all. Yes, Joseph Opoku can play there as much as Moussa Yeo, in fact both can operate on either side if required. A player who can adapt on both sides of the pitch with previous experience at the top level may seem a big ask. However, we do know initial dialogue has taken place with two likely candidates. What comes from that as we all know is down to many factors from remuneration to location. You make your own minds up, and what will be will be, but we don’t report news of this nature lightly. If as we suspect these two likely candidates do progress any talks (only one should sign) - Swans fans won’t be too disappointed with the player concerned. Early stages for sure but it displays a club this season that knows what it wants to keep Swansea City battling in the top eight for the rest of the season. We have seen it reported that the Swans won’t be busy in January player wise. We have been told that the Swans are always busy and the Jamestown Analytics link doesn’t stop because players can’t be transferred until then. In fact if Matos needs reinforcements in January, dependent on where the club are in the league, and the best case is to sign players with certain attributes they will. Added to that the information is, nobody can say transfer business won’t happen in January, be that for future players or those needed due to Injuries, progress, league position, the managers requirements will all feature in the decision making.
