Charlie still not fit? 21:11 - Nov 19 with 2777 viewsLblock

Just read Ollies column for SKYSports (the one where you're encouraged to take his tips and give your money to SKYBet). He alludes to Charlie still not fit or struggling with injury

Shame if true but don't see it making much difference tomorrow night

I also saw in the ES this evening that young Charles will be here till the summer and then off on a freebie. Not sure how I feel about that but another slight on the club admin for allowing his contract to run down I suppose. Fair play to Charlie for his attitude as he could well of stropped off some time back what with seeing far inferior players come in on much more money than him and basically be turd

Fingers crossed a fit and firing CA back in line up tomorrow

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

The Administration cannot force Charlie to sign a contract if he doesn't want to. He did not want to sign a contract extension over the summer because he thought he was likely to get signed by a bigger club. When that did not happen he made it very clear that he would rather stick with us for the year and then go off on a free than sign on for one of the clubs that were on offer.

Think the point is, we were slow getting him signed up on a contract extension, the day after the play off final would have been the time rather than waiting till he's smashing up the prem.

Made a hash of trying to sell him when we had the chance to.

Did we? one bid which Bianca would have turned down straight. Lets think about the dynamics here.
Bianca does not want to move (especially north unless top 6 club), they have young kids and are settled and spent the summer getting married.
Charlie is 26 and has one big move in his career. This is the one that sets them up for life, do a bosman and most of that transfer fee goes to him for his family rather than his own personal glory it made sense to wait
The majority of teams in the premiership play with one up top. Ideally they want that one to be pacy and powerful and score goals. CA does the latter, and does it especially well in a front 2 that limits both the choices for him and the teams that would be willing to fork out the money required

He's trying to play a long game. Choose from a couple of clubs last summer - one of them Newcastle - or have your pick of 30 next summer when available on a free.

I must say I don't know much about the inner workings of the Austin household but I'm sure we turned down at least one fair bid ourselves.

I've said he'd be smart to wait it out but the fact of the matter is we're quite possibly letting the most valuable asset the clubs ever had walk on a free and at least part of that was due to the transfer fee.

I do appreciate them showing some spine for once and not caving to pressure which should help future negotiations but I think our initial valuations were too high. £10 million for Phillips?

Charlie can make a lot more money and also pick a better team in the Prem if he sees his contract out. The one thing that springs to mind though and has done for some time is, would he pass a Prem medical? I am not entirely sure he would. Nonsense really, when you consider how good he is but that may end up being an issue.

That said, he hasn't looked fit since he has returned and I fear we have brought him back too quickly. He has looked a yard slow and off the pace in the 2 games he has played and that is almost certainly to do with the hamstring not being entirely free to move on. I kind of wish they had kept him back and continued with JET in form.

In defence of the club we did offer him an improved contract last season, which would have been equal to what he would have got anywhere else. His potential England chances would have been effected by it and he decided to wait on that side of things rather than take the money. In the Championship it is very difficult to lock the player down, especially with other FFP etc things in the background. So, I don't really blame the club at all on this or anyone.

Charlie is not about the money. He also isn't about just jumping to any club. He will get fit and play his heart out for us until he leaves. That is unless some Prem fool in the top half puts down £8m+ in jan in which case he and us would be stupid not to take it. But I suspect he will stay anyway.

Never knowingly right.

Looking like a bad decision by Charlie and QPR to reject the 12m from Leicester. Easy to say in hindsight but we've seen it before with Sinclair and although Austin has done little wrong the club should have cashed in for the best deal possible. Very mixed messages from the club which inevitably led to where we are now with vastly overpaid players under performing yet again. Still feel if we can get 5-6m in January we should take it unless we see a drastic improvement in team performance in the next month.

Hard to know what really happened, I suppose, Dan.

Maybe the club wanted to accept the €12m, or maybe it was structured badly eg based on appearances which - with Austin's injury record - would be risky to accept, or maybe it was Austin who vetoed it thinking Leicester wouldn't be much of an upgrade.

Who would have guessed that Leicester would have done so well? I'm also not - controversial this - convinced that they would have had Austin signed for them.

£15m for Austin was a bargain and clubs that passed up the chance are now suffering as a result. If you're going to pay £12m-£14m on unproven Premier League players like Mitrovic and Rondon, you should be willing to pay £15m for one of the best British goalscorers going. Let's just enjoy having him here and hope he gets fully fit again soon.

I wondered if he'd been brought back too soon.
Hard to keep him off the pitch I wouldn't wonder.
