Interesting that people presume he's on strike or such - my understanding is that the club desperately tried to offload him in the window a la Washington, and him not playing is entirely down to McClaren, who has shown a willingness to completely discard players (Smyth springs to mind) |

I get that the goals per games ratio is good but despite that I just don't think we can carry him. Opposing teams don't seem to select "finishers" anymore and nearly all modern attackers now have work rate as well, so when we play Sylla it's 10 v 11 for lots of stretches of possession. He simply does not work hard enough at running the channels, tracking back, challenging or showing for the hard ball. We can't afford to carry a player who'll rely on ten players to get the ball into the box for him.
If he leaves at a loss then he'll only have himself to blame, because if he'd pulled his finger out he could have been really good for us. |
Good points. Ironically, based on what I have seen of him, Hemed is also not great at tracking back and fighting to get the ball. I haven't seen all his games, though.

i don't see how welcoming him back into the fold would make things worse at all. But I suppose Hemed and Wells basically have to start now with the money we're paying them or else Schteve looks like a bit of a wally |  |

Obviously Sylla's stats and goals per minute return is a pure fluke, a flash in the pan and what could've come is madness to consider?

If you think Sylla could not have been sold for that or maybe more IF he'd kept returning goals at the rate he has then you need to get with where this hideous modern game is going.
Hatful of goals - I can't be bothered to dig his goals per minute out but it's good, up there with the best. If I offered you Gary Lineker in his pime (for relative speaking sake) would you sign him? Sylla's game is all about the penalty box -if we'd serviced him with crosses and cut backs he'd be one in two for absolutely sure. I also think he does a lot more than he's given credit for but will always look a bit sanguine which is a shame.
Anyway.... he's sure to be another released in Jan at a loss and then we'll be scratching our heads when the loanees have gone back in the summer and Matt Smith is slower and Oteh not ready and....
Maybe you can't see the above, a lot of refs don't see the game the same way as me so no worries. |

they had gone down, but probably partly because his apps were so sparsely separated. But the idea he's ever 'had a chance' is stretching it. 'A chance' is what Washington got, again and again - and by that I mean a solid 6-8 games in a row starting, even if he has a not-so-good game. No one ever gave him that, and it's a real shame. |  |

He's a very mixed bag.
+ves. Has a good hold up game when hit with a long ball, he's got a huge leap and strong header, and he sniffs out chances in the box from crosses in general.
-ves. He can be horribly clumsy on the floor, flat footed and his off the ball work rate and runs are not the best. Has absolutely no strike ability outside the box. Also I suspect his attitude may not be the best as three managers now have pretty much ignored him.
Unfortunately, having never had a proper run in the side we'll never know if it's more good than bad.
I doubt he stay in England after us.
