He's been 'dropped' on here for Smyth - no idea why. Whenever I've seen him, I've been quite impressed.
Obviously we haven't seen much of either so difficult to tell.
Up until last few games we have been going well, so no much of an argument to be made for making changes, but with the injuries ,Mass not being around & the team not goimg so well, the urge to start chucking names at the starting 11 is getting stronger.

Scowen has shown in the past he is a good player for us and had been playing well, I think you count on one hand the number of good games Cousins has had so is worth trying someone else in that position. No one is saying everything us Cousins fault but he's not playing well so why not give Manning a chance. No one suggesting Manning is the long term answer but he's had plenty of good games for us and did well at Rotherham so deserves a chance.
As or Smyth don't see many suggesting he should be in ahead of Pawel every week but he's another who has never let us down when selected and might be worth a look if Pawel's form continues to drop. | | | |

Smyth was dropped after Sheffield United @ Home for probably being too ambitious when trying to run the ball out of our half and losing possession to overly physical Utd players (with little protection from the referee).
By comparison, Wzolek at Sheffield United away just played 5 yards backwards passes to Furlong when in possession and showed no desire to run with the ball or take a man on, the complete opposite to Smyth in the home game.
I would start Wzolek but if continues most recent form would change him for Smyth @ Half Time. | | | |

I mentioned on another thread that maybe Manning would complement Cousins more, though I don’t honestly think that’s the case.
But comparing Cousins/Scowen in the short term, and particularly the long term, it’s no contest who has been the better player IMO.
Smyth we’ve not seen much of and it may be wishful thinking on him based on a romantic memory of one great run against Cardiff but Manning has a fair number of appearances to either be rated or not by us punters and personally I’m a fan.
I don’t mean to have a dig but it comes across like because a fair chunk of our support doesn’t rate Cousins you’ll make more of an effort to deflect blame from him. I’d love the guy to hit form and play well for us but I just can’t see it ever happening for long. | | | |

I'm not to 'scapegoating' Ingram. I said a year ago Lumley was the best keeper at the club. I would go further this season and say Brzozowski is better than Ingram. | | | |

Smyth - 'Let us down' might be a bit strong but he was awful v Sheff Utd in his only league start & was subbed at half time.
Haven't seen much of him since but what we have does nothing in my eyes to put him in front of Pav, Bright AND Chair! | | | |

Feel a bit sorry for Smyth personally. Olly used him a lot and he was mostly impressive and effective in his performances, capped off with 2 fine goals and Cardiff and Sheff Weds.
Not to mention bursting on to the Senior Northern Ireland team too.
So if he is being "overlooked" on the basis of a poor performance against Sheff Utd at the beginning of the season, then that would be extremely harsh. Unless their is some other reason we don't know about. I know competition for places is tough at the moment, but I would've thought we would have seen him used as an impact sub a few times this season, but he seldom even makes the bench! |  | | |
