Surely the Director of Football should be doing the interviewing! Les Ferdinand should be allowed to bring in who he wants without any pressure from above. He is supposedly head of the 'Football' division of the club - and should be choosing the manager. |

Like many, think Bircham could be a good choice.
What about similar to solskjaer at Manure - bring him in until end of the season, keep looking at alternatives but give him the job if he turns things around? |
Don't know if Birch can be classed as a 'good' choice, but I agree, he could do a job until the end of the season at least. And you never know, he may surprise us a la Solskjaer as you say. |  |

Still curious what Sherwood's game is there exactly. The initial newspaper report suggests he had issue with the precariousness of the situation, but how he then presents that as “If they've got realistic expectations of the future" (as if he'd be asked for a tilt at promotion) beats me.

I think rightly TF got stick for that comment about Hughes interviewing us. But at the same time, anyone who goes to any interview and doesn't ask questions is an idiot. This increases immensely when going for a manager's job at a football club. Even if I was desperate for the job, I would be asking lots and lots of questions. What exactly is the money situation? Will you be backing me financially? What are your expectations? What happens if I exceed them? What happens if I fall a bit short? A lot short? And so on. Any bloke who comes in not asking those questions (and dozens more) doesn't have the brain to be a manager IMO. I don't like him much, but Steve Bruce said one wise thing: you don't pick clubs, you pick owners. And to do that, owners do need to be interviewed, regardless of whether you consider the club to be a step up or a step down. Hughes was an arrogant arse, but I don't particularly blame him for doing his due diligence.
I don't know why, but for some reason, I'm leaning towards Bircham. Just something about him. It was interesting we improved last season after Fleming left and he seemed to get a bigger role behind the scenes. Also interesting that the club seemed not to want to let him leave. Thought of highly it seems. |  |
