Rowlands was out of contract and Bees weren’t putting anything on the table because he was out with a broken leg; they were looking for him to prove fitness and then get him signed up.

Ollie steamed in with a contract offer there and then plus rehab straight away. He won Rowlands over with his compassion, belief in him and energy for the club. No doubt the immediate wage helped but why not?

Don’t forget, Rowlands was absolutely class so his signing was canny and a real coup for us withtge state we were in.
Those are the punts we need this summer and we need them to come off.

I’m fearful we’ll leave things until it’s too late and end up retaining duds like Bidwell and Cousins simply down to familiarity and if they are still available. I’ve still not slayed the ghost of the Karl Henry retained and extended contract fiasco..... please don’t repeat that R’s

The list of released players (or now out of Contract) that Sky ran the other day made for interesting reading, I could cobble a blinding team out of it but of course it would be subject to the right level of signing fees, Agent fees and wages.

Bidwell on close to £18k so can't see him re-signing for £8k

Poll: Are we staying up?

I remember the broken leg bit, just couldn't remember where he was on his contract. I know we have to cut our cloth accordingly but its a big gamble to sign players that have been released i'm assuming because of injuries.
Rowlands was class as was Sinton so i was wrong to make derogatory comments about ex Brentford players. Players out of contract is where we need to shop. Freeman is class, can't believe he was released from Bristol but i guess some players just fit into some clubs better than others.
Totally agree though we need to get in quick and not leave signings too late. Would help if we had a manager though.

Would any of them be cheaper and better than Bidwell and Polish Pav?

I don't know about cheaper, but I would certainly think they would be better!

and 11 points - AT THE END OF THE SEASON - still isn't that close

Warburton is a big fan. He tweeted in August how delighted he was to see him back at Brentford

I’m sure we can find a LB cheaper and better than Bidwell. We may have one in Manning!

I’m sure we won’t find a better right winger than Pav, regardless of money offered. Doesn’t mean we can afford to keep him, mind.

Got the impression we weren’t prepared to take the financial risk in taking up the option on an extended contract that was a massive increase in wages.I would have taken the risk but it’s not my money.

Attacking right back very quick.3 previous owners failed M.O.T twice worth a test drive

Thanks for the info. Furlong's position unless he can be persuaded to move to cb. Sounds like a big risk unless prepared to take a cheap short term deal.

Tough one with Odubajo. High risk, high reward gamble we likely can't afford to lose.

And yeah, Furs does seem stubborn about the RB spot. Unfortunately it may be easier to unearth a quick RB than a reliable CB in the current market though.

If you lot got eight pages of bread puns out of Warburton I can't wait for the days and days of bible references if this goes through.

I heard that he has signed for Wednesday, would be an expensive gamble that we didn’t think worth a punt dispite having a good season.I would expect your medical staff would have thought the same.

Thought this coming season was meant to be when FFP finally bit Wednesday on the arris but apparently not.

As far as I've heard, he isreal fast and would be setting the Bush on fire.
I've also got something in my mind about CaNaan linking this thread to the Warburton thread, but it's not quite ready yet.

Brentford has an amazing scouting and development set up.. they dont often get it wrong: tarkowski, scott hogan, mepham, andre gray, ryan woods, maupay, ollie watkins, canos, jota, the list goes on and on

if theyre letting a player go on a free, theres probably a good reason... i would stay away

He only had a 1 year contract with an option to extend. We couldn’t ask for a fee the option would have meant a steep increase in his wages and a minimum of 2 year deal on a player with an ongoing knee issue. We don’t have the resources to fund what would be a big gamble. On his day an excellent attacking full back.
