We'd have taken this after the Boreham Wood friendly wouldn't we? (yes the result hurts today, I'm trying this being positive thing)

The goalkeeper’s the problem, not the defence. If you look at the stats on shots on target we’re about the same as other teams (so would argue the defence isn’t any worse than other sides) but Lumley lets in about one in two. That’s 50% of shots on target he concedes. You can’t expect any defence to restrict the opposition to zero shots on target. We need to score at least one a game, often two, just to get a draw. We need a decent keeper more than we need anything else. [Post edited 21 Dec 2019 17:35]

Its inexperienced - partic. at this level. We knew this from Day One. 2. Its over-achieving very successfully TVM, in this, the toughest of seasons for all things financial. The lads fully deserve their Xmas pud - 32points is a fine return. One final statto point: when did we last open Xmas pressies with more away wins than at home? 1991-92 under Gerry maybe?? 14th at Christmas on 18:00 - Dec 21 with 1966 views | Nov77 | There’s just something about Lumley, six of the last seven goals he’s conceded he hasn’t attempted to dive to get nearer to the ball so he can make the save. He just watches them go in.

Yeah, wrong to blame defence or Lumley, just two inexplicable headers. Wells needs to be kept up the other end of the pitch and think Cameron was knackered, he had a good game aside of that. Not sure what a manager can do about those two errors, not a lot basically. Excellent game to watch, just gutted it ended like that.

Totally agree. It was an entertaining game. I just hope it doesn’t come back to haunt us. Wells miss in the first half felt big at the time and proved to be the difference between a draw and a win. I think we’d have won comfortably if he’d scored. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I think calling our individuals is a bit pointless today though....we dominated for spells and didn't take a lot of chances. Eze should have run the clock down at the end and took a shot.bo one complains. It's a team sport and there were positives all over despite some annoying errors

Lumley was in poor form but was good today, as he was against Birmingham and Preston. Zero chance with either goal today and made some good saves otherwise. Very happy with Rangers season overall. But feeling deflated today as I'm sure most are, so not surprised there's a touch of negativity

Well remembered. That season we had four away wins and two home wins come 25th December.

Many of us also get that we can't defend, have poor goalkeeping options and generally have many faults. Its not changed and we can debate it all day and all night long. But it is actually nice to take a step back and look at the bigger picture occasionally too, things are ok!

It's not occasional, it's weekly. And debate is the lifeblood of forums. If folk don't want to read such matters then they're in the wrong place. [Post edited 21 Dec 2019 21:51]

Then clearly things are going ok! edit for the edit - of course I'm not suggesting for a second these things don't get debated! But there are other threads for that, I'm simply saying its nice to appreciate where we are overall! [Post edited 21 Dec 2019 22:20]

14th at Christmas on 04:31 - Dec 22 with 1363 views | nix | I agree with you. While it's incredibly frustrating to have these series of cock ups week in week out, at both ends really because we do miss a hatful of sitters weekly as well as passing some crackers to their forwards to score, I'm still having a blast at HQ. I usually come away from losses or last minute opposition goals absolutely seething. But it's just such a joy to see Eze and BOS playing atm that I still enjoy matches. Eze regularly gets marked by two or three players, and BOS does too, he gets kicked up into the air, he has to do do his fair share of tracking back. But then he does one of his runs taking out several of their players with a roulette or flick over the defenders and it goes a long way to making up for our self-sabotage. Or BOS does one of his surging runs, and it makes up for the occasional bits of dross at the back. I wasn't really expecting to be above seventeenth this season. So from my perspective we're punching above our weight. I understand that we all get hacked off with the ridiculous errors, particularly as we find a new way to hand points to the opposition every week, but I also think there's room for seeing the positives. I also understand why Warburton tries to rotate the squad. I can see that he wants to protect BOS as a young player and keep him fresh. We have a small squad and some of the replacements, like Matt Smith, Mlakar and Wallace haven't really looked good enough at this level, which limits the manager's options. Whatever I'm enjoying this season so much more than last season.
14th at Christmas on 05:39 - Dec 22 with 1345 views | BushRanger82 | This is why we never really evolve as a football club. Too many people inside, and outside the club, try to take positives from the fact they all thought we'd be shit, but are in actual fact, not as shit as they thought we would be. Like every time the club is humiliated by either Brentford or Fulham, we quickly put it behind us and move on to the next game, until either Brentford or Fulham humiliate us the next time we play them, again.

And maybe this is the difference between our first 10 games and the last 10. Although we were shipping goals before, we were scoring with 'ease'. But both Wells and Hugill have gone off the boil. Wells has missed a few sitters recently and Hugill seems to shot high (way too high) more often than not. Despite all our ever continuing defensive frailties, perhaps if our main attack force hadn't dried up over the past month or so, we would have a good few more points on the board.

Hugill may not be scoring but he is a massive presence as a target man, fighting for every ball, winning most of his duels and giving Lumley an alternative to playing out from the back or trying to find the full back on the half way line. He has his limitations and I don't know how a club could pay the millions they did for him but he is doing a very good job for us
