Warburton in denial 07:46 - Jul 1 with 6995 viewsHooparoo

Warburton trots out the “we controlled the game” and “we was robbed” cliches yet the stats quite clearly show Fulham were on top. Is he just saying what he’s been told to say or is he deluded?

Let’s hope that the usual post match comments from Warburton (press repeat) are just for public consumption but the players get a bollocking behind closed doors.

he's not daft, he will know we are not playing well but pointless coming out and having a go at the team

Always followed that rule myself with my staff despite it being sometimes hard to stick to.

If it's not the players, as MW claimed in that interview, it must be him in why they are playing so poorly.

You lot love to pretend the Dijkhuizen stats season immediately after he left didn't happen. Warbs and Benham both had valid arguments in their split, you only got it right after learning from getting it wrong.

Warbs left because he wouldn't buy-in to a changing role in the system the club was implementing . Basically he wanted to be more of a Manager than a Coach, which is fair enough, but no-one is bigger than the club, as they say.

Marinus was sacked at the end of September, just 9 games into his first season, which might seem premature, except that he had been working with the players since 1st June, during which time the Directors will have been watching him closely.

And this is where the club was clever (imo). Having firmly concluded after 5 months that he wasn't the right man for the job, they could have taken the easy route and given him, say, to Christmas/20 games, until results made the case for binning him unarguable.

Instead they held their hands up, accepted the appointment was their mistake (Marinus didn't appoint himself, after all) and acted swiftly to resolve it before too much damage had been done.

Meanwhile re Warbs, some Bees fans are very down on him, partly out of loyalty to Benham in their dispute, but also because anyone who ever leaves the club is "rubbish" etc.

But the truth is, regardless of the circumstances of his departure, he left the team/squad in better shape than when he took over.

For myself, I think he has many/most of the attributes of a good coach, but needs the right set-up and careful handling to make the best of these. Maybe QPR will prove to be a good fit (seems ok so far), in which case I'd say good luck to him.

You could certainly get worse.

A lot worse.

A lot of words to restate my point, albeit in a facile way to put a risibly feeble triumphant spin on it.

The lesson learned wasn't that of one mis-hire, but that the system attempted while StatsBomb analytics had their hooks in you was naive in its extremity and unfit for purpose. The backtracking compromises you made as a result are a tacit acknowledgement that MW was justified in not buying into the proposal as it was at the time. As I say, Benham was also justified - but to suggest he was entirely, omnipotently correct all along is a deceitful little fairy tale confected in hindsight.

Upto the lockdown/restart of football I have been well pleased overall with most things at the Club. Sadly, it has gone 'pear-shaped' since but I believe that we have the right man for the job. We should be getting behind the Manager/Team.

Overall its been a far better season than we have had, in terms of watching the game/performances, under very difficult circumstances.
