Carabao Cup - white flag raised already 13:40 - Aug 21 with 3503 viewsMyke

Reading Warburton's comments about the upcoming season on the official site, it's not hard to see that the league cup is waaay down his list of priorities. On three different occasions he mentions how difficult it will be to manage the squad through the fixture congestion 'if' we get past the first round. Looks like the gap since '67 is going to be extended by another year at least!.

Given the ever decreasing interest in the thing, would football really give a toss if we scrapped it?

I have zero interest in it. I didn't even look at the draw.

Do people really want the only competition we've ever won to just disappear?

Since the Champions League came in all clubs not in it have just given up ever trying to win anything.

With respect, I didn’t hear you kicking off when we didn’t even bother to try to retain our only European triumph, that was the Cops de Ibiza.

Not sure if the Copa is even in existence, but I bet we put out stronger sides in pursuit of that glittering prize then we did in the League Cup that season.

Only City take it anywhere near serious and by the sounds of it, QPR can’t be bothered to try this year. So do everyone a favour and just put the bloody thing out of its misery and in the process, erase the memory of ahem, cough-cough...you know ‘what’!

It might be understandable this year, still a shame though in my opinion. I honestly think these guys are easily fit enough to deal with it. We're talking about one more game, perhaps two. The issue, in my opinion, is over-training in between the games, not the games themselves. At their age and fitness, players can cope with two football matches a week no problem.

One recent blip - 12/13 - Swansea. How dare they.

If we get rid of it then that is another part of football's grave dug by the Premierhit. Keep the competition and refuse entry to the Premiershit clubs. That way everyone can realistically go for it every season and the fans may take an interest in it again. The clue is in the name - the FOOTBALL LEAGUE Cup

I like Warburton but I did find it a bit disheartening to hear his response to the fixture release being lots of problems and oh no we have to play games. They would usually play 5/6 games in pre season during 4 weeks without any moans so not sure why he's overly concerned about having to play possibly 5 games in September if we manage to do the unthinkable and try to win a cup match

I for one welcome the tempering of expectation.

Takes the wind out the sails of the bed wetters and will make our 8th place finish seem like an achievement.

Don't get me wrong I like MW, but if he's going to mention fixture congestion and Sat/Tues/Sat EVERY bloody week I'm going to scream!

Yes Mark, we KNOW you've not had much of a break, we KNOW the squad will change, we KNOW its a shorter season etc etc etc

Probably just me, but these get repeated time and time again, while its STILL radio silence on season tickets and when we might actually get back in KPFS!
