Don't really understand, and it's never been publicly explained, why this went away. Great idea and concept. We had a brilliant night at Wembley Arena watching Tony Thorpe, Kevin Gallen and Michael Meaker form a very potent front three, on a night when there was a Take That concert at the stadium - very confused crossover chat on the tube.

I used to love the Evening Standard 5 a side tournament they used to run at Wembley Arena.
Went to that a few times in the early 90s.
It was a good night out, drinking and watching football with other London football supporters. All very friendly without anyone really being that bothered about the result.

I heard it was linked to players’ insurance. The organisers could not / would not stump up for the level of cover wanted / needed by the players.
