If people refuse to restrict the number of children they have in this day and age of longevity of life, then the planet cannot continue to sustain/ feed all of us, and life as we know it was always going to end one way or another anyway. If the 'virus' (ahem) didn't get ya, the starvation will!!! (well, the starvation probably won't get us older folk, but it may well get the youngsters I fear)

If that's true (and I don't believe a single word written by the BBC, particularly when in that article it goes so far as to portray population reduction as a bad thing. What absolute b*llocks) then it's good news all round surely? (albeit that the report actually refers to populations reducing "by the end of the century", by which time it could be well too late anyway and nature will have solved the problem itself by then)

Agreed on both counts. Which only serves to prove (as if any further proof were needed) that basing life on 'constant growth' is fundamentally wrong and quite simply unsustainable.
Life needs to be balanced with nature. Upset the balance and there'll only be one winner in the end.
