Johansen and Adomah 09:46 - Jun 18 with 9621 viewsMyke

With some of the elder lemons moving on; Austin, Wallace - even Barbet and Ball to an extent - and the arrival of Salter and presumably a couple more young(er) uns, the importance of Jo Jo and Albert could be as significant off the pitch as it is on it, this coming season. I have no worries regarding Adomah fulfilling a mentors role - we know how much he loves the club - I hope Steph can also play his part in settling the team and influencing the younger players.

If he stays the captain will be Dickie. Easy choice. Also helps as part of us improving his market value.

Dickie was Oxford's captain before coming to us, so you may be right. However, it would be a bit of a downer for Johansen to have the captaincy taken away from him.

We always change captains though, it's not that big a deal. Johansen - along with Adomah - will be tasked with leading in the dressing room, likely doing the player fines, organising the socials, being the link with the coaches and players, etc, but on the pitch you make Dickie the captain. I'm sure if it's discussed internally there's no resentment - Johansen especially is a good pro.

As I say, Dickie is guaranteed to play, he's been here a few years now so understands everything, he's had generally good availability and it's another little uptick for his value because there's usually always value attached to buying a teams captain.

If we go to a back four then, imho, Dickie may not be guaranteed to get in ahead of either Dunne or Clarke-Salter.

Different kind of player to Dunne who is more your traditional ' head it, kick it, clear it' kind of CB. Sounds similar to Salter style wise. The three sound like they would complement each other very well in a 3, but we know that's not Beale's preferred formation.
In a 2, I would imagine Dickie is the most vulnerable based on the 2nd half of last season. In a 2, he needs a really pacy RB outside him

Agree with all that Myke.

I think we will see more rotation of systems, even within games with five subs, as well as resting of players when required. Salter, though, together with Paal, are the new left side of our defence 'chosen' by Beale. If/when we start with a four Dunne will have to fight it out with Dickie for the right side. Dickie is the more tidy footballer but Dunne is stronger in the air and not as slow.

Dickie's a great player but I don't know if he's ready to be captain - he doesn't seem that vocal to me - unless I've missed it. If anything Dunne seems more outgoing.

I don't really see the reason to make a change though, definitely not yet - Stef has captained Norway loads and probably gains a lot more respect than we're aware of.

Unless it's clear that he's not going to start regularly, fair enough, but in that case I'd seriously consider Seny - big, vocal, always present, clear view of everything.

Agree completely.

I'd hope that the rest will restore JoJo to something approaching his best. Either way, he's going to start plenty games. For the ones he doesn't, JoJo remains club captain but the band goes to the captain of the day.
