Was a royalist as a child but all the nonsense acted out in t her children and grandchildren's lives has tainted the monarchy for many many years.
Not sure where the monarchy goes after this and in that I mean the entire royal institution, not just having Charles as King.

it pains me greatly to have to keep reading about Trevor Sinclair on it. It's as welcome as a parasitical tumour complete with hair, eyes and teeth gorging on it's host's flesh.
There must be other arenas of debate in the oceans of infinite time and space that is the internet, where the standing, such as it is, of Trevor Sinclair can be discussed.

Wish the media were more upbeat about all of this though.
She has been an incredible person and amazing servant for our country and through dreadful times personally and nationally she has always retained her dignity.
She had a fantastic and amazing and incredibly long life and now she is having a rest with her husband and others !!

Nothing to do about cancel culture at all. If Sinclair has his views that’s fine with me but there is a time and a place and the passing of our Queen yesterday at a time of huge national grief was not the time. He should take a leaf out of such people as for example the leaders of Sein Fein who in their website have provided a sincere and dignified response. Maybe Sinclair does not realise that Her Majesty was at odds with Margaret Thatcher over her refusal to apply sanctions against the apartheid regime of South Africa. The Queen led a respectful and dignified life. Sinclair, well based on his recent record, if it was not for his undoubted footballing talent, well we know where he would have ended up. |
I'm not for a second saying he was right in what he said, was a ridiculous and stupid thing to say and he will lose his job and career over this but i am reading a lot of people wanting it to go further, thrown out of forver rs for example. I do think in these scenarios where people say something racist or ridiculous explaining to them why they were wrong is better in the long run than just calling them a prat and kicking them out. Hes sadly not alone in having that point of view.

I am a lot sadder than I thought I'd be about her passing. But as I explained to an Aussie here I'm not mourning the Queen per se, how could I, I never knew her.
I'm mourning happier days, Xmas's, Lazy summer days in the school holidays. She was a constant through all of that. It seems another link I have to the UK is broken. My only connection to my homeland now is QPR.

I saw a piece last night somewhere that said she was someone who when at home sat with one bar on an electric fire so as not to waste electricity and I think that gives a clue to the respect she was held in by those who revere the monarchy and more importantly those who do not.
In other words she was the head of state, mixed with all those world leaders, went everywhere but remained a humble and dedicated person.
As with some of the posters above I am not really a monarchist - and equally not really a revolutionary either. She was a constant however and when there was a politician in number 10 you were not too keen on it was comforting to know that they reported to someone - however symbolically - for their actions.
I do think she will be missed and it is the end of an era. We all at times struggle with change and some will feel that in different ways. I hope it does not turn into something where people on either sides of these debates go outrage hunting. If you feel that way maybe just think of her example. From Trump to Mugabe to McGuiness she just got the family silver out provided a welcome and tried to do her best. |  | | |
