Yet again another superb report, I really look forward to reading your reports Clive it's the only thing that's kept me sane all of these years.
Regarding the marking I fully agree with your MoM but based over the 90mins I thought JCS had his best game for us he marshaled the backline and won several crucial headers I felt that he deserved an 8 at least based over the 90mins, with Cook to come back alongside him we may have at long last got a backline that we can build from.

Yeh there's a whole lot of them bunched up on 7 because I didn't think they were as good as Chair but Chair wasn't a 9. JCS was probably the closest to an 8, but Preston offered so little to defend against I left him where he was. Excellent though, as I said in the report. |  | | |

Spot on as always Clive - very enjoyable report to get the week going.
I really hope this is not another false dawn (by god as you state we have had so many). I'm trying to remain cautious as not to be let down again as it is mainly the same players who have been poor the last two years but I really like the gaffer and he might just have enough to get the best out of everyone and get us above the line.
Two massive home games coming up now. No doubt a decent crowd will be in for the Hull game and if we can get above the dotted line before Christmas I really will start to believe again.

Agree poorly defended but as we are now moving the ball quicker in the final third, we are not giving defences time to get re-set, leading to the hashed clearances & the poor defending from the oppo we have seen in last 2 games,
Arguably all 4 goals v Stoke and the 2 goals v Preston came from not giving the opposition defenders time to re-set,
Moving the ball quicker with 1st time crosses has to be down to Marti (Chair taking on two with his left foot in two games) and he seems to be the Manager who will increase rather than de-value our best assets, so lots to be positive about right now. | | | |

How Marti cycles the midfield based on who we're playing will determine how we'll get on this season.

Perfect summing up. It is all fine margins with sliding door moments. Stoke should have had a penalty and if they made it 3-1 we would have lost. If Dykes had walked, a whole second half with 10 men could have seen us go on to lose. No doubt if this was the Premiership or Europe, VAR would have given Dykes a red. It rather goes to show how match officials can influence outcomes. Very nice to get 6 points but it could easily have been none so I am definitely not in the turning a corner camp yet.
Anyway we had a good second half for a change on Sky so I won't knock it. There is a good chance Burnley will be back next season for another north west away fixture assuming we do stay up. |  | | |
