"his Danny Maddix-style triple tackle" and "Marti Cifuentes switched half his outfielders for this one" warmed the heart of my cockles.

Superb report. Thanks Clive.

Our best performance of the season. Everyone showed up and put in a performance.
Delighted for Jimmy Dunne. He’s taken a lot of stick but never can his desire be questioned.
Fans were our twelfth man yesterday. Magnificent.

Agree with all the City ratings other than Knight, who I would have given a 5 for some terrible passing. O'Leary was City's only decent performance. First proper look at Mebude and he looked like he'd been plucked from the crowd. Felt sorry for him as it became increasingly clear that a) no City player was going to pass to him unless it was an emergency and b) Rangers wouldn't bother marking him either. Painful.

Bell going off and Pring being out weakened City on that side. Mehmeti has zero end product, Cornick is an honest, but limited trier, and he's definitely not someone you play out wide. It was all just a mess. I was getting wound up and I don't support them! Not sure why Twine stayed on the bench, when City were struggling to create anything.

Thought Rangers were worth the win and whilst not being world beaters, had a few chances and looked as good/better than a fair few teams I've seen this season (including Millwall, but they won 0-1 down here too!)

Very interesting, Konk.

Bell getting injured was a plus for us, I agree. Cornick came on the left and seemed to be no threat at allI, I agree. Mehmeti against Dunne seemed a mismatch as well, and Dunne definitely was struggling against all three as he was out of position but crucially he showed them all inside, and none of them seemed to get behind him if I rememeber rightly, but still the threat was down his wing and it still ended up in shots on goal.

Which brings me to Knight who killed two of those shots with a curious vengeance:;:;:;

How are Knight and O'Leary doing for City?
I ask as a half-Irishman.

Mehmeti goes inside 99.9% of the time, so in terms of predicability, he must be a dream to mark. Loves a blind alley too.

Knight has had a good season - gets through a lot of work and brings drive (when City aren't just going sideways).

O'Leary has his critics, but I think he's absolutely fine for most Championship sides. He is brilliant at point blank reflex saves, has got better at commanding his area, but his distribution is pretty ropey. I like him and think he's improving with more game time.

Thanks, Konk.

This is what I texted a group of RoI friends yesterday about both. Seems to tie in broadly with your greater knowledge.

"Jason Knight quiet, taken off, played at 10, drifting out to the left, got two shots off, both poor.
23 now, still not nailed down a role or position, and doesn't seem to be progressing to someone who'd make a difference Internationally, or maybe even a First Division player.

Max O'Leary good in goals, lacks passing skills, I think, but I'm always impressed with him when I see him. Solid option for Ireland squads but unlikely to ever be good enough in his all-round game to be Ireland No. 1, I'd guess. Behind Bazunu and Kelleher but still solid."

I thought first half an hour we were doing OK but felt like when rather than if Bristol City would score, they hadn't created much but felt we'd do something daft then that Hayden tackle seemed to change the mood in the away end and in the team, went on the front foot after that and looked a lot better

Some of the football second half was a joy to watch but out inability to finish the game off nearly cost us

Those Rotherham stats at the end of the report are utterly terrifying

I looked up that Mebude, Westerloo bought him from Man City for £1.65M without him playing a senior game; that was his 5th game ever.

He sounds like one of those Football Manager signings you take a punt on thinking they will be the next Daniel Nardiello (Champ Manager 2001 version) but end up playing them sub then not renewing their contract.

When we were doing the 'Dutch' passing I did sit smiling to myself for no reason and I hadn't had a drink either.

As mentioned above; those Rotheram stats are indeed terrifying.

I think Knight is a very decent Championship midfielder, but he's not a 10. Not particularly creative, isn't a goal threat, but does a lot of good stuff in the middle and can drive the team up the pitch when tactics/personnel make that an option.

O'Leary has the odd mistake in him, but I'm not sure he has more than most other keepers in the Championship, and most games he pulls off at least one amazing reaction save, so he's fine for me.

Good info, thanks. Rooney played Knight wide right for Derby. That didn't seem to be natural for him either. I always thought he was a 6, but I now think you're right that 8 is probably better for him.

Genuinely, if we beat Rotherham I will be more shocked than when we beat Burnley last season.

Bare bones.

Its time our boys put a hammering on someone and it feels like this Saturday to me .
2 massive wins and a draw with Norwich sandwiched around a sh*t performance at Stoke has put us on the right track IMO.

Pure trigonometry that clip. Makes peak Swansealona look like 1980s Wimbledon.

It was inexplicable to me, watching the second half, how City seemed perfectly content to let us attack at will. It was like playing against ten men.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

We had our tails up second half and Bristol struggled to get back into the game. That’s the way it often goes in football. Goals change momentum in games.
