I do think we are at our best for tough away games like this one, probably other games Home or Away, with Dunne and JCS at CB, and Edwards, Madsen and Kamara in the midfield, but I guess the need to rest Madsen prevented this. Varane in there for Vale would probably have been an improvement. [Post edited 19 Oct 8:48]

Eleven games in and all our worries are coming to fruition concerning injuries, fitness and player availability. It was always going to be a tough ask going away to Birmingham after a Wednesday midweek game and so it proved. However up until the first goal we were containing them ok but once they scored the result never looked in doubt. At least we now have a week to recover and get ready for tough game at HQ.
| Clinical Blues deliver Rangers reality check – Report on 08:18 - Oct 19 with 2782 views | Paddyhoops | Looks like another season of standing still unless the injury and fitness situation improves which let’s be honest is not happening.. This squad at its best is well capable of a play off place. The current situation won’t make that possible. | | | |
| Clinical Blues deliver Rangers reality check – Report on 08:25 - Oct 19 with 2753 views | stevec | Nice report. Missed this game completely and haven’t fancied watching the goals back, but intrigued to read we played two in CM. This is the issue I have with JS. On the rare occasions we play three CDM we look good, very good. We are compact, it adds protection to the full backs, it lets the wingers think predominantly as forwards, it just bloody works. Quite why he wants to change that, against the kind of pace and power team that we’ve struggled big time against, season after season, is unfathomable. That said, was expecting a hiding somewhere this month, but if we’re going to move on, JS needs to settle on a formation that works or it will unravel again like last season. | | | |

Exactly this - no more to be said.
| Clinical Blues deliver Rangers reality check – Report on 09:27 - Oct 19 with 2494 views | GaryBannister86 | Great report, thanks. In such a packed season I really don't think a defeat at Brum is much to panic about, but it does make you fear for what's going to happen in the next two games. Swansea will obviously be very tricky, never mind Southampton away. We really need to win one of those to cement our place in the top half rather than slide down back towards our natural home and then feel the confidence draining out of the whole place in that inevitable "here we go again" fashion. Just feel like that with the real potential of having a better squad this time around, we need to keep believing and it will help if we keep in the top half for now, of course. | | | |

Our spine underperformed for the first time. Charles, Dunne, Kamara, Kolli. Unfortunately, theirs didn't. Side note, love Dunne, but never again should he shit-house like he did to try get their geezer sent off. Hope he's embarrassed. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yeah, his options were very limited but with a bit of creative thinking he still could have stodged up the midfield. Others have said the forward players didn't do enough defensively but it's asking too much of them. JS has form last season for surrendering the midfield in away games and being slow to make changes. Hopefully vhe'll learn the lesson this time.

I think we all knew that October would be a tough month anyway and thats without the injuries decimating our squad.Get through this month in mid table and hopefully we’ll go again from November.
| Clinical Blues deliver Rangers reality check – Report on 10:21 - Oct 19 with 2286 views | Chrisranger | Thanks for the report Jamie Edwards was to deep, so our formation was wrong to start with I thought Birmingham were ok , nothing special , we practically handed there goals to them on a plate, just thought they bullied us out of the game and wanted it more, we can be poor and have off days just don’t like being weak, which we were , looking for a big response Saturday , a perfect game for us to rise up to the occasion | | | |

100% agree re Dunne. I was standing there saying he's broken his leg to anyone who'd listen. Two minutes later I was utterly embarrassed for him and for myself. He made such a fuss about it I couldn't believe it when he was up and running about. I've never had much time for Birmingham, seeing them as a bit dull, but fair play to their fans and, on the day, their team. Good to see another old school ground too - I don't do many away days.

Generally the West Midlands football grounds are great. Result sadly was not a surprise, but it's one game out of 46. Nice for them that they can get Liam Millar on loan. Of course as mentioned ad nauseam on this site, the biggest concern is the management of the players' fitness especially in-game. If things don't improve then Williams' position has to be untenable; but by all accounts him and Nourry are thick as thieves so it's a dangerous game our CEO is playing. Et tu, Christian?

The worry is that JS gets sick of it, he can't truly show what he can do, and goes elsewhere.

True, but equally he might feel he's now in a better position to make stronger demands of those in senior roles at the club.

Not wanting to redo previous threads (Don’t go raking up old graves) where have our previous managers / head coaches ended up? Cifuentes is in MLS (definition of a tin pot league) post Leicester clusterfu**, Ainsworth is back in League 2, whatever remains of Neil Critchley must be on Blackpool leisure beach, Beale is at Zulte Waregem (is it a disease?), and we effectively retired Warbs. We get very worried about our managers moving up the chain; not sure the chain is thinking about them all too much. Just like our players, JS will only get a better gig if he actually does something (top 8 etc). Then we can start that discussion
| Clinical Blues deliver Rangers reality check – Report on 12:11 - Oct 20 with 270 views | BushRanger82 | We turned our concentration off, right on the stroke of full time against Derby and conceeded a goal that damaged our goals for column by a little bit, then went to Birmingham still comatose, and shipped in another 3 without reply. Rangers, just being Rangers, I guess. I'm off down the bookies now to see how much I can get on us being in the minus goals column come the end of next week. | | | |

"Neil Critchley must be on Blackpool leisure beach". That comment left me wondering where he is now. It turns out that he's a first team coach at Ipswich Town . They've started the season pretty well, they're in 10th, currently.
