Doing him as the 'played for both clubs' guy this week but he was at QPR just slightly before my time so it would be good to get some colour from others.

Great keeper when he played for us. The last time we topped the PL/1st Div he was the keeper. His only weakness in my eyes was his vulnerability from freekicks from distance. John Barnes even mentions it in his biog of the day we played Liverpool in the FA Cup at LR. They were desperate for a breakthrough as we had played them off the pitch and were 1 up. Barnes scored from 30 yards with that free kick, then Rush put them 2-1 up. We all remember Simon Barkers barnstorming throught the Liverpool back four then smashing the equaliser to force a replay. But Seamans point blank save from Rush kept us in the game. The ball was lofted to the far post and headed back across goal where Rush was lurking 4 yds from goal and redirected the ball. Seaman had to readjust to flick the ball over the bar for a world class save. Not only was he a good goalie ,he was a really nice fella.
We've never replaced him. It was a truly incredible feeling to have a keeper that when the likes of Rush were through on one-on-ones, you knew he would save it.
I always remember our end trying to get a chant going: 'We all agree, Roberts is better than Seaman' the year he left against Arsenal away. I've never heard a chant with less conviction.

I actually think big Jan was a better all round keeper than seaman

So you're hatred of him is based on his sex life ?? I'm more concerned with what he did on the pitch for QPR , which is what this thread is all about in the first place.

Now I've no idea what you look like, but if you or most fans had gone toe to toe with out 6'4 keeper, my money would have been on spunky
Saw him play his debut down at Southampton on the opening day of the season, we lost 5-1! Colin Clarke, later to play for QPR, scored a Hat-trick.
I was up at Leeds (in the Leeds end!) in our FA Cup tie circa 1985 and got to meet the players after. I remember him being bloody huge! Hands like dinner plates.
Overall, he was a great goalkeeper for us. I don't reallt recall him making any bloopers. Arsenal paid a then world record fee for a goalie, £1.2m. QPR being a selling club could hardly turn it down or stand in the way of a player wanting to win 'silverware' (sic).
He made goalkeeping look pretty effortless, mainly due to how good he was. I was gutted when he left. He's only 49 now so perhaps we could get him on a 4 year contract?
Got the worst reception I've ever seen for an ex-player returning with another club. Think it's all down to the way he left, he clearly didn't think we were good enough for him. There's a story that Peter Reid approached him one day and said "look, why don't you just sign a new contract or f*ck off?" Seaman said, "I think I'll f*ck off."
FWIW, best keeper I've ever seen down there, and phil parkes was my hero when I was a kid.

I was gonna post similar and mention this match too! My biggest memory of him is of his vulnerability from free kicks and that FA Cup game proved the point, he was always late getting across his line. The rest of his game was pretty good though, but somehow I never liked him in the way, as a keeper myself, I have fallen for QPR 'keepers down the years. I don't know why, as he was obviously very good and always seemed up for a bit of a laugh and banter, bu he just never clicked with me.
That Rush save mentioned was awesome, but wasn't in that cup game, it was in a league fixture - maybe the one we won 3-2, when Trevor's missus ran down the stand and gave him a hug!

Yes he made things other keepers really struggle with look like no problem. Often the ball was heading for the top corner and he'd just judge it perfectly jump early and catch it with both hands as if it was in the middle of the goal.
I remember at the very end of his time with QPR, Man U came to Loftus Road (and were ripped apart by Andy Gray, whom I was sure would become a huge star). I went with a Man U friend and stood in the School End (back in the days when there were maybe 3/400 away fans for an end-of-season Man U game). Seaman was being linked with Man U rather than Arsenal at that point and kept turning and waving to the away fans when he was at that end. Cheeky sod.
Remember him being interviewed when he joined us and the naive interviewer asking him why his team mates called him Harry! He dodged the answer.
Debut defeat at Southampton 5-1 as mentioned. Best keeper I've seen at Rangers, but as others have said, always seemed to let us down in the big/crucial games.
On a relatively funny note, a few years ago John Lewis in Watford had a Christmas shopping evening and advertised lots of free gimmicks: food, drinks, choir, giveaways etc.
Anyway, my daughter spotted a queue of autograph hunters and it turned out to be Seaman signing and having photos done. It turned out that people thought he was part of the entertainment, but he was just out shopping - took it very well.
Definitely a bit dodgy from free kicks. That Liverpool free kick, you just knew was going to go in. Wasn't he in goal for the infamous Holland WC qualifier and the Koeman free kick?
Excellent at one-one-ones. Nit the best in the world but not far off.
Superb reactions, and a great reach. Not just big but very athletic (though, true to the times, he could have been even better if he was as fit as a modern goalie).
Great footwork for shots from play, but dreadful footwork for free kicks (pure mental block it seemed, just too slow to react and then his steps were slow, the dive, when it came would leave him well shy of the post.
Also very commanding in the air.
Carlos wouldn't forgive me if I didn't mention THE save at Old Trafford. Best save I've ever seen live.
Too young to fully appreciate Parkes but Seaman was far better than anything we've had since the 80's.
Got unmerciful crap in his last few months at the club when he began to agitate for a move. I thought it the worst grief we've ever given anyone in my time, but of not the worst then it was certainly up there.
