Australia starting to tire. Great game. Australia great on the attack but flagging now.

Never knowingly right.

Is that the prick who went to Watford after we spent a fortune in rehab for him because he wanted to spend more time with his kids in Yorkshire.

On a slightly related note, why is Clarke Carlisle fking everywhere?

I never forget when he said that he wanted to go back up North to Lancashire to be with his family/personal problems. He left on a free transfer (after we nursed him through an cruciate injury, depression and alcohol abuse) signed for Leeds and within a year he was playing for Watford.

Horrible man, one day the press will do a proper exposé on some of hs antics when he was at ours, won't go in to the details but knew one of his flat mates at the time when he lived by ravenscourt park and he was a disgrace. Long time ago and hopefully he's a changed man but some of his behaviour then was scummy beyond belief.

If not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled. PG Wodehouse

Tried to kill himself, went back up north briefly to get his head sorted out and then moved back down South where his girlfriend and child were. What a cnt eh...

My mind has gone blank about the Cahill challenge - still buzzing from an exciting game - but it gets on my nerves when they commend anyone for 'technical' or professional fouls, and especially when they announce that they did it 'for the team'.

Can't imagine anyone who was clever enough, or quick enough, or well-positioned enough, or well-supported enough by his team-mates or the team's tactics, would opt to hack someone down instead of sashaying away stylishly with the ball and doing some REAL damage to the opposition.

They're not doing it for the team, or the fans, or their country, or the Club. They're covering up their own inadequacies at everyone else's expense, and it is those inadequacies, not the 'cleverness' or 'determination' that leads players to do something bad because they don't know how to do something good, that screw the team and everyone who follows it.

Teams - even the Italians - are learning how to play well defensively AND play football AND keep the physical side of the game intact. It isn't easy to do, but the skills acquired by the gifted players aren't easy to acquire, and the game might benefit from more skill and less mindlessness.

On a slightly different point, but not unrelated, on reflection, I thought the penalty against Australia was hand to ball, although I thought the award was harsh when they showed it at normal speed. Slow motion suggested he turned his head and moved his hand to knock the ball away.

Deceptive. I don't know how the officials make so many correct decisions, never mind the few obvious - or apparently obvious - errors they do make. About time the players and others recognised that the officials are performing to a far higher standard of professionalism and honesty than the players do, treated them accordingly, and did their best to help.

It hardly makes sense to deceive the officials yourself, then protest when they fail to identify some crafty bit of deception that cheats you.

As for Clarke Carlisle, I'm afraid I don't know much about his private life, but didn't an error by him contribute to Cardiff's late goal in the play-off Final?

Not to kick a guy when he's down or anything like that ...

I think Carlisle is one of the better co commentators, him and Danny Murphy have been the best two so far

At the time his reason for wanting to move up north was to be near his girlfriend and child.

He ran his contract down and left on a free transfer after the fans supported him and the club nursed him through his injury and depression.

Yeh that bit sticks in the gut a bit but it doesn't make him a bad co-commentator and he was a superb central defender for us before the injury.

I don't think QPR fans can have anything against him now we know the full story. Agree at the time it seemed he was ungrateful but his life comes 1st for him and he clearly had many issues.

I like him as a co-commentator, he won't get everything correct but he brings a lot to it and prefer him to Townsend. Agree that Murphy is also very good.

Barton did well on Eurosport for the 1st week as a pundit also.
