The wife and I are looking at spending the upcoming weekend at home. Anybody been there and can advise on the best things to see, eat, do, think about etc?

( Sorry just jealous....:)

If you are really stuck for something to do, watching QPR vs Huddersfield?

Watch the "escape to the country" programme and imagine you are turning down every property because they don't have a snooker room, cinema room, indoor pool and enough land for a large herd of llamas and a pony!

Stay in bed. Watch all of Father Ted on Youtube. Think about making popcorn, but instead eat lots of jam.

You know it makes sense.

Paint the skirting boards - you know they need doing.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

You're welcome to my superb Platinum seat in SAR as I've got to watch Mrs Hants singing and wouldn't be able to get back in time from LR.

Better - go to pictures, see Toni Erdmann (before Jack Nicholson gets to do his version), share nice bottle of wine, coal fire and ...

Otherwise do what I'm doing at the moment, clearing out things, putting them on ebay.

Or, do what I was forced to last week, unblock loo (grim - don't ask), fix washing machine and fix heated car seats. Lotsa Brownie points for me!!

It seems that my intended combination of activites based around existential philosophy, engorgement, boxed wine alcoholism, token household gestures and horticulture is very much aligned with other board members, so that's good.

Or you can get a leaky Vaillant combi boiler during the night,
learn from YouTube how to take it apart (while your missus and no.3 son are banging on about there being no heating or hot water - like it's my effing fault),
discover that a crappy rubber connection tube has split,
find out that the manufacturers have subsequently replaced the £10 part with a lovely copper tube costing £80,
wait all day for a local engineer to come and fit it and test the system,
shell out £291 that you didn't have,
vow to drink heavily all weekend.

100% of people who drink water will die.

What you can do is get a load of city break books in and scour them looking for interesting ideas of the best places to visit and where to eat, see the sights, get bladdered etc. Compile an exhaustive list and then come on here giving out your suggestions on the various holiday threads.

You will then appear better travelled than Alan Whicker and Judith Chalmers put together.

Sorry to hear about your issues. It reminds me of when British Gas were running their "12 days of Christmas" TV ad. Mrs Midlands and I were watching TV together (in Bracknell, why would anyone swap that for a long weekend in Bali? I mean, come on! ) and the ad got to two days only for me to shout "Two unserviced solar panels - w@nkers". Here's the gen on our situation: British Gas happily took our money and fitted said solar panels, then - only three and half years later - informed us that "in order to better serve our needs" maintenance and servicing of the panels was no longer going to be covered by Homecare. Talk about spinning bad news! Man alive!

Oh, and to put the tin hat on it, I have since discovered that British Gas wrongly installed the pipework. They used the wrong technique when joining up the pipes, with the result that if the fluid in the panels gets really hot, the pipes could leak. No biggie, after all, having 140 degrees C fluid oozing all over your house is a good thing, isn't it?

Give me strength!

Back on topic, go outdoors. Spring is on its way. It's all kicking off in nature. My garden's like an avian version of The Benny Hill Show

You could read all the posts on this forum regarding the "Brexit".

That'll take up most of the weekend, if you can stay awake long enough.

Mate I moved. I no longer experience the glorious, all engulfing hatred of living in the absolute epicentre of American hipsterism. In fact the management company paid us a semi half decent amount of cash to move out. So instead of moving to Queens we moved to......

I do need to fix the toilet, that's true. I lie awake at night worrying that both of the neighbours had to change their stopcocks because of me. I carry that shame like an open wound.
