New assistant? 06:18 - Oct 24 with 1765 viewsphilip2662

Big 2 home games coming up, if we can create a cup tie atmosphere we can get some points from them,GET BEHIND THE TEAM
But long term maybe the answer is to bring in a new coach with a bit more tactical know how than Holloway, and hopefully he can improve the players we've got,it does get frustrating seeing defenders who can't defend and players who think a net is for fishing
Cheaper than spending money on hit and miss players and also stops changing manager and saying ...here we go again

I wouldn't put it quite as negatively but yeah I think some additional expertise or even just another voice or type of personality in the coaching staff could have a big effect. We already know how well he and Jackett (diligent and dour) rounded each other out working together.

Hard to imagine that Birch, Fleming - and Mackie to some extent too I'm sure - do much other than amplify whatever Ollie's message is rather than influence it at all. (Personally I would find it pretty easy to tune out and switch off those four yelling empty motivational bollx at me every day).

Thing is, Ollie isn't actually some mechanical stale dullard like Pulis or whatever - chances are he would actually enjoy and benefit from some coaching dialogue as long as he didn't feel his authority was under threat. Then the stubborn defensive sod in him would come out instead.

Was disappointing when Dean Austin left what with his reputation, but then given how Northampton are doing since maybe we dodged a bullet.

I suppose with the retro kick the club are on now the only possible eventualities are Gerry coming back as elder statesman, or Jackett again if he gets the boot at Pompey.

If the coaching set up stays as it is then I basically feel the future of the club rests on Penrice and Johnson somehow improving the squad incrementally every window. Take Hall or Scowen for instance - does anyone think they're good players that we desperately rely on because they carry out Ollie's instructions to the letter? Or is it rather that they're intelligent enough players to read between Ollie's lines themselves? Only better players will cover the shortfalls in coaching currently.

Remember how truly awful we were a couple of seasons ago? We couldn't hold a high line, defend corners etc. We have definitely improved since then. Bearing in mind the atrocious run of injuries this season, I'm stunned we aren't getting thrashed every week! A lot of that has to be down to Curtis Fleming's influence.

Imagine how bad we'd have been in this situation under Redknapp - he isn't exactly known for creative solutions to squad problems. We've had Furlong, Robinson, Bidwell, Perch all covering missing centre-backs this season: can't imagine Redknapp doing that.

There may well be room for another coach that might push the side forward but even they wouldn't be able to solve our injury problem simply by turning up. The forwards need a bit of inspiration, although Sylla seems to be enjoying himself a bit more.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

I think all the established top class coaches go to clubs with more money and better facilities. The days of assistants like McClaren are over

If the Premiership is our ultimate goal, I think we need to look at the Burnley strategy.

It’s been said before. They didnt have money to spend either so went for a strategy of recruiting ‘hungry, young, and cheap’ players and coaches

They plugged at it for a long time though which requires patience from us. I hope we have it.

I'm still trying to get head round how a new assistant will teach those 4 boys up front how to put the ball in the fckin net.

Does anyone know if Les has ever gone in and mentored our forwards?

Never knowingly right.
Poll: How long before new signings become quivering wrecks of the players they were?

Perhaps they are " confidence " players as some say. A few goals and the gates might open.

You're comparing what there is now to pretty much the worst possible nothingness. Sure, yes, fine, okay, it's better than Redknapp two years ago... but are those really the terms of this conversation? Why don't we just compare ourselves to clubs with similar means in the same division right now like Preston and Sheffield United?

Not having a pop at you specifically Dorse but it's getting pretty hard to have a rational dialogue these days stuck between OTT death threat sociopaths on one side and OTT "please... please....look at the bigger picture.... I beg you..." simps on the other.

The eleven players running out in QPR shirts every week have been more disorganised than the opposition and we're not seeing signs of improvement. Is it really more complicated than that?
