Blood hell Clive.

Sky have selected Rotherham against Blackburn when Ipswich - Plymouth was available? A crowd of less than 10,000(?) instead of a guarenteed full house & the return game of the best EFL match they've shown this season!

My respect to all of you that are heading to Reading tomorrow. I'm waiting, in trepidation , for the following weekend at home to Swansea. At least the pub should be quiet, but how many pints are required to suffer sitting in the Upper Loft that day? Probably not as many you will need tomorrow!

Nuts isn't it. They basically hoard and park the Lg 1 and Lg 2 rights so they can show the play-offs, zero interest in anything in the meantime.

Enjoyed reading that Clive, and funnily enough, a lot of your thoughts on those who grew up watching us play in the 70s and 80s having been running through my mind too recently.

I suppose so much of being successful is down to timing. If the Championship transfer market was still as buoyant now as three years ago, things probably look a good deal different for us, but it appears as though we've chosen the wrong time to be responsible. Conversely, would Brentford be flying so high if their "develop and sell" model had been similarly torpedoed 2-3 years in? Timing.

We now have a FFP model that hampers and discourages investment, at precisely the moment where the opposite is required. I've said before, I cannot see any problem with owners who are prepared to spend their own money if they are not allowed to dump that debt on the club. Why on earth that stipulation is not being added into FFP regulations is beyond me. The idea that it's alright for them to put £2m a month of their own money to keep a club on life support, but not to try to improve the club is just madness.

All of this leaves our club, and other too I'm sure, stuck in limbo, and none of it is inspiring to the fans. One way or another, we appear to be going nowhere fast, and we're expected to compete for results, for players with one handtied behind our back. Everything could be helped by the game's authorities imposing salary caps that are affordable for the clubs. Players won't like it, but I think it is indisputable that too many mediocre players are being paid way more than their talent actually should demand.

Sadly, nobody at the top of the game really cares about anything except the big clubs, and there is no appetite to take back any control of the game from the big boys.

In conclusion, without a significant sea change from the top down, we'll never get back to a time when we'll be competitive in the Prem. It's really very depressing.

I agree but the Championship is awful standard this year so it's a great opportunity to get in the play offs with what will likely be lowest points for a while

We're in a terrible run but don't need a lot to go shooting up the table

Every. Word.

We need an uprising against these financial rules, which are killing competition. Its all about the top teams and it is sickening. We are getting left behind yet again.

Can we go out yet?

Totally agree. You need a centre half who can head it. A centre forward who can hold it and an annoying midfielder to hassle the ref. Then you're basically in the play offs.

The apathy is, to me, the most terrible aspect of our present predicament, viz fans' desolate collusion with all of the downwardly managed expectations by the Club in recent years from the CEO to the Press Officer. The mind-f*cking contradictions are also enough to give anyone with an ounce of sanity an aneruysm: supporters being made to stump up for what was it, 10k, to put Stan's name on Ellerslie Road (and showing their underlying contempt for that era), while the club pisses away both potentially lucrative and exciting progress in the cup, any cup, at the same time. You couldn't make the fine art of our professional lying up!

Sure, we had the odd stupid cup exit in the 80s and 90s, but we also had more great, memorable, epoch-making wins, and in reference to the wonderful team that should have beaten Spurs in 1982 (and probably would have, had we not been desperately unlucky, as well as stymied by a clearly corrupt ref), and went up in 1983, as well as the fabulous side that was the top team in London in the early 1990s, it seems bizarre to me to do them down for not winning a trophy in comparison with the fecklessness, laziness and ineptitude we now have to put up with. Why not throw the 1975-1976 side under the bus at the same time for losing to Newcastle that year and missing out on the Championship by a shitty point? Just for the record, we also got to a Milk Cup final in 1986 (I know, bad example) and were League Cup semi-finalists in 1977. And, unless memory fails me, we beat a Divison 1 team at Wembley the year I was born, lest we forget when the usual suspects here are trashing that competition and even Mr Warnock shamefully dismissed the same honour as an inconvenience.

I never - NEVER - saw the likes of Thomas, Francis, Clement, or Hazell, Gregory, and Waddock, or Byrne and Bannister, or Sinton, Bardsley and McDonald, phone it in or switch it on and off like the current crop, and I watched them a lot. We weren't perfect in any of those eras, and some might even argue we under-achieved. But talking about what QPR are right now in the same breath as what we were in the mid 70s, or early 80s, or first half of the 90s, is risible. Too much of this season already should turn everyone's stomachs. Simon Stainrod (and his Elbow) is right that so many modern players just lack something you can't buy or coach - it's called character.

None of the players can be in any doubt, whatsoever, about the thoughts of the club, management and fans. Any of them that turns up and plays like a w@nker today, gives less than 100% for the entire time they’re on the pitch, should be shown the door as soon as practicably possible.

Brilliant Clive - Amazes me how you keep these brilliant articles coming.

Very nostalgic content on those wonderful 80’s and 90’s era’s.

Lets hope the players pull thier fingers out of thier arses, man up and dig out a result today.

See you in the away end later.

Can’t go due to family stuff that no dad can get out of. Weather report from Reading is bloody awful, cold, rain, wind. Outside is not much better either. Fancy a win today, only because I won’t be there…. Andy

Clutching at straws here, but how many of those third round defeats where pre 1967, when we were, almost exclusively, in division three and starting in the first round?

Anyone know how many are making the journey today? I am missing this one, seemed a good time to go for a holiday.
