QPR cling to positives and single point as situation darkens — Report on 20:39 - Apr 20 with 3851 viewsHastings_Hoops

Great report once again Clive.

I found this paragraph interesting:

“Ainsworth placed enormous stock in attitude and “buy-in” to build what he had at Wycombe and promised to “root out” those who did not go with him in that regard here at Loftus Road. For me, and I am just guessing, that’s what you’re seeing manifest here because on a pure footballing basis Drewe over Laird, Adomah over Willock, 82 minutes of Chris Martin, makes no sense. However badly he’s been playing, if you think you genuinely leave Ethan Laird out completely, with Osman Kakay already injured, to pick Aaron Drewe against Onel Hernandez for tactical reasons, then I can’t help you. QPR’s third manager this season is now choosing to try and salvage the club’s Championship status with a line up that is miles and miles away from the one you would think is this team’s strongest on paper. I wonder if, one day in the future, Ainsworth, or anybody else who’s been involved in this horrid collapse, will come clean and be honest with us mug punters about what exactly did happen here”

I think that you said last month in one of your reports (maybe under Critchley) something along the lines that we should bin off the loans and play our own youth - why not if we’re losing /going down anyway.

Thanks Clive.

Your last few lines sum up exactly how it feels at the moment.

'But then, it’s difficult to remember the last time I did actually enjoy watching this team, writing these reports, spending time like this.

Three games to go'.

It's hard to believe that it was 6 months ago to the day that we beat Cardiff 3-0 under the lights and went top. Everyone was buzzing that night as we left the ground. I've just re-read Jordan's report of that game and despite over 50 years of watching the R's I still can't get my head around our collapse. I just want this season to end and never be repeated.

Whatever else we might agree upon, we're clearly not 'teetering hopelessly' over the trapdoor - on the contrary, as Field highlights on the Offish, it's still just about in our hands. Which doesn't mean I feel any more hopeful than he sounds.

To quote Bob Dylan, it's not dark yet, but it's getting there.

Twilit, shall we agree.

I was pleasantly surprised at the notable improvement from many recent games.

However, it was hard not to notice how generally poor the opposition was.

The big question is whether we will crumble the next time we play a team that presses and works hard. Haven't yet seen enough to feel optimistic about that!

This team is going to need to win a game to stay up. Maybe two. That seems pretty hopeless to me.

Better over-all effort levels, but same old same old for me. First 40, Norwich were sluggish on the ball. Then they upped the pace of the game.

Aside from the conspiracy theories (which are probably right), there is a football reason why Drewe is playing and Laird isn't. Ainsworth wants a long throw in the team and Laird doesn't have one.

Didn't Jimmy Dunne take some fairly long throws in the games he played at right back?

I enjoyed that period we had of Lyndon throwing the ball to where Lyndon should really be standing.

"spending the evening splashing around in the shallow end of the septic tank at John Prescott’s gaff would count as an improvement"

Stop it Clive - I spat my tea out laughing......

The more I think about it the more I have come to the conclusion that going down might even be a blessing in disguise as it would give us an opportunity to re-set as a club and hopefully come back stronger.

I had a very in depth chat with a few Sunderland mates who said the same they are in a much better position now because of their re-set, as long as you don't stay down for more than 3 seasons. I guess the the same can be said for Ipswich who look like like they are coming back this year.

Sheff Utd, Luton, Millwall, Leeds and others have all gone down and come back stronger.

Just hope the owners stay interested and we give Gareth the full three years to build his own squad. BTW I watched Wycombe under Gareth and they played some very fast attacking football with players who cared and would walk on broken glass for the manager and club. All put together on a very small budget

Also some cracking away days ahead - Exeter, Burton, Cambridge, Wycombe, Charlton, Orient etc etc...

Staying up might just mean another ball aching fight against relegation next year.

Anyway thats my thoughts on the current situation......

I mentioned on another thread (no idea which!) that what really pissed me off on Wednesday was our defending corners.

We need to win, but even as late as the last minute of added time, we have 11 players in our penalty area when Norwich have a corner. We clear the ball (I know this doesn't happen in most games, but it did in this one) straight to a Norwich player as we have nobody forward. Possession regained & more seconds gone before we can touch the ball again!

Were Chair or Richards going to help us more by being forward (taking opponents out of the penalty area) or standing around for the fun of it?

All 3 of our managers this season have often brought everyone back for corners. Occasionally one has been left up but as you say without anyone it just invites pressure back on you if you manage to clear the ball.

I much preferred the Warburton approach. He always left one up and often it was two (Chair & Willock). We even managed a couple of goals over his time with us counter-attacking from corners.

The legal eagles got involved and Lyndon was told to cease and desist. He was breaking JET's copyright, you see....

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

The 2nd yellow for the Norwich player was on the way out of Stroud’s pocket until he realised that it would mean that he had to send him off.I actually saw his hand go to his pocket and then he changed his mind.
A cheating dwarf c@nt is what I called him on Wednesday night and nothing will change that view.
I hope he doesn’t get games in league 1 if we get relegated.

I know how you feel, Clive, but to throw in the towel now with 3 games to go as supporters would be as criminal as it is understandable - particularly as we've been railing against the team in recent weeks for allegedly doing just that, and it IS in our hands - though should Reading lose all their final games (not impossible), we can do likewise and still stay up.

As the myth of Pandora tells us, as well as 80s synth legend Howard Jones, 'hope /you find it in everything'.
