What a night! It truly was such a night! I was thinking, naive fool that I am, that maybe playing Sheffield Wednesday the hand brake would come off and we'd score a hatful, well maybe 3 or more likely 2. Even though we can't score goals it still seemed possible that if the stars and referee aligned we'd manage one very good result. Last night was it.
Enough had been said already but a couple of thoughts. Jimmy Dunne more than held his own against one of the trickiest players in this league. Maybe he really is a right back. Willock played as if he really enjoyed it and no worries about his hamstring. Marti has rebuilt his confidence. Paal a bit below par recently played his full back/overlapping winger/extra midfielder role really well. More evidence that Marti is a genius.
It has to be said Leeds were poor from the off and soon looked shaky. They gave the ball away and gave silly fouls way all evening. Even when they did get their game together Begovic was at his best. The ref probably favoured us a little, not something you can often say. Certainly he penalised most of Leeds' rough stuff as well as Colback's contractual requirement to pick up a yellow every game.
The whole team played well. Just one word: Brilliant!

Firstly l don’t want to hear anymore about ho we have the most talented squad in this league,what l can’t figure out is we played so well to go undefeated for 20 plus games and then it all turned to crap so fast.Something has to happen real fast to turn this around or we will be back here next year.If l am being honest l can’t see us getting passed the playoffs but l hope l am wrong.I still hold out hope but these last few performances do not feel me with a lot of confidence. |

Should have played Stephens after all v Leicester the other night. RM is right - we didn't lose 5-0 today. What an odd season this has been. In the play offs while always looking susceptible to dropping bollox all season. I expect RM will do his best to over think the play off games but I genuinely don't know how the matches will pan out.
I'm assuming sports direct are indifferent about going up anyway. Their finances will be much more transparent in the top flight.

Another sell out, electric atmosphere. It's a strange thing about the human condition that we're so jubilant, focussed and invested in just avoiding failure.
As I write, Owls have trounced Blackburn at theirs.

How many matches have there been when we only play one half Sometimes the first sometimes the second I do wonder if the coaching team give them too much information at half time which leaves them confused |

The idea of an RM managed Saints in the Prem next season is, at one level, what we all hope for and why we are so disappointed at such a performance and result. On the other hand graveworm's point (so good he made it four times) that going up might not be a good thing is very valid. RM is managing a top team in THIS league and we are as open, and flaky, at the back as I have ever seen us. I will be delighted if we do go up (no point being a supporter if not) but would be fearful of RM trying to play like this in the Prem (as he would) without the resources to get the players needed (they have to be very good to play this way and we won't have the money)
I blame RM for many of our woes but the failure to put seems to the sword and the missing of easy chances is largely down to the personnel on the pitch. In the end, although Adams and Armstrong have scored a fair few between them they have missed sitters at vital times (esp. Adams) and the back-up players have not been up to it.
The play-offs will be anyone's guess. We have to beat two of Leeds/Ipswich, WBA and Norwich. Not easy at all. |
