FIFA officials arrested
at 10:39 27 May 2015

No!!! It is one thing arresting a few top nobs for alleged corruption and personal enrichment but to suggest that the award of the world cups in Russia and Qatar was not 100% legitimate is simply ridiculous. Surely anyone could see that these hugely important and lucrative international cash jamborees were awarded through all the correct channels via a process that is of unquestionably high standards and which shines a moral beacon throughout the world?

If there turns out to be anything - and I mean anything - to answer for in these charges, I shall be shocked to the very core. Here's supporting our Great Hero Sepp in his attempt to be re-elected on Friday!

Burnley mates letter to Guardian - re Chelsea love in
at 10:35 26 Feb 2015

Are people called 'Bolton' allowed to support Burnley? It could be worse I suppose, he might have been called 'Blackburn'.

I look forward to the publication of his letter, leading to a wide ranging discussion on media attitudes and bias towards the top 4 English football clubs. But then again....

This week's podcast
at 10:29 26 Feb 2015

Noddy's guide to listening choices please. I was a regular in the old format, either via a download from the website, or more commonly through the Tune-In radio app where the podcast was listed. 10 minutes of fiddling around on facebook/net last night but I couldn't 'find a way'.

I don't have access to i-tunes. And my ancient first generation iPad won't download any new apps never mind Soundcloud (you seemed to need Soundcloud to listen direct from their facebook page?). I have an android phone (with which I could download Soundcloud) but is there a way of putting the podcast through Sonos/Spotify/internet radio so I can hear it on something other than a tinny phone? I don't want to listen to it with earphones. It was a lot easier when we all had wirelesses.

Peter Schmeichel was in the South Africa Rd stand, a few seats in front of the press box. Whether he was shouting at anyone I didn't notice...

As an aside Mr Sheen and re N Korea - I have an interest myself, left over from an undergraduate course I did years ago. I came upon 'Escape from Camp 14', a non-fiction story of an internment camp prisoner in Waterstones earlier this year. You've probably read all the first-person books written on Korea's prison camps (there aren't many) but if not get this one in your Amazon basket...

wan king as an 'addiction' or act as nature - well I see your point, but from my memory, boys of about 13+ seem to do an awful lot of it.

Perhaps it was just me

Interesting post...

the fact that only Disco and Simmo have alluded to wan k*ing in a list of past addictions surprises me in that I thought most of the people on here were adult men, with a smattering of female visitors too. This suggests that other than Disco and Simmo, most of you (especially the men) are either lying, or under 13. I'll leave you to decide which.

So some of my addictions (* indicates ongoing):

Lego
Model railways
Wan king
Hi fi and music (bit of a dabbler, if I'm honest, not ongoing at present, but liable to return at any time)
QPR*
Going to gigs
Girls/women
Darts
Cannabis* (not quite an addiction, more of a habit)
Drinking alcohol (again, fortunately not an addiction, was more of a habit)
Internet fora*
Messing on the internet when I should be working* (linked to the above, and like any proper addiction, this one makes me feel especially bad about myself)
Biscuits and cakes*

I do think I have quite an addictive personality, so the lack of porn, class A drugs, cigarettes and gambling in the above list makes me feel secretly quite pleased with myself.

You can also get off at Trafford Bar and walk from there. There is a (modern) Marston's pub over the road (The Tollgate, I'd rank as average if that) but I don't know what it's like on football days. If you are going to Exchange Quay you should avoid the trams to Altrincham (or change at Cornbrook). Unfortunately once you have got off at Exchange Quay there's not a decent pub round there to be seen. So get your beers in the city centre first. Britons Protection is a good shout, proper old school pub with no tellies.

Danny Simpson...
at 10:54 3 Sep 2014

I don't understand this sale either. I liked Simpson, I thought he'd played well for us, although was criticised for crossing (fair enough, OK, he was not the perfect right back, but no-one ever expected him to be). Furthermore when you look at our 25 man squad Simpson's absence is stark, as (Harriman aside) we only have Isla and Onuoha who would play right back neither of whom are specialists in that position. Yes I know we were going to play 3-5-2 but I would have thought would want to retain some flexibility by employing a right back in case.

I think something happened that we perhaps do not know about. Did he throw his toys out of the pram when we signed Isla? Did he react badly saying he didn't want to fight for the spot? Did he become 'not the right sort'? Did he think there would be no role for him in a 3-5-2? Did someone at the club treat him shabbily? Harry went off on one after the Burton debacle talking about bad apples whom he wanted rid of, perhaps he referred to Simpson? We don't know, any of this and so we don't know if it was a mistake to sell him. We just know he left in a hurry. There are two sides to every story, we haven't really heard either of them. Even the article in WLS is remarkably thin.

News coming up - Vargas now available
at 14:36 2 Sep 2014

OK fair enough re Vargas but is Kranjcar's permit the second item of good news?

Being as he has played in England for 7 out of the last 8 years can this even be considered news at all? If yes, I look forward to the forthcoming rush of 'East Acton Not to Get University' and 'Pope Francis Not to Visit Harlesden' stories...

Agreed.

If everyone's as miserable at the ground tomorrow (and at subsequent fixtures) we'll talk ourselves onto a losing streak - and one that extends for a lot longer than two league games too. Support, and in particular home support, should have a big part to play this season.

I am in the same position!

I think he posts before the press conference and guesses what Harry is going to say, while Harry is pretty easy to predict though I can't explain how he Clive can be so uncannily close to the truth on some issues (eg comment about Palace approach for Traore???).

Is Clive ITK??

Valbuena going to Russia?

I don't think so. £50k/week is still a lot of money especially for a small club like ours. We need to cut our coat according to our budget and just because we've messed up before doesn't give us an excuse to carry on doing the same thing.

Also, why there wouldn't be a transfer fee? In February this year he extended his contract with Marseille until June 2017.

Brilliant Bosh, thanks for the memories...

However in light of this comment I am a bit concerned we're not seriously in for him. There's no way he can be expected to sign without the use of the automatic bottle opener.

I realise you are posting this tongue in cheek but perhaps you have hit upon a really great idea. Could they really do worse than our elected representatives? On the plus side, intellectually they would be fairly tame, and the civil servants could just get on with keeping everything on an even keel without any half arsed policy ideas being pushed through at all costs. I'm coming round to the idea, though to get democratic sign up, I think it would have to be a coalition of willing ex- and dead football cronies from all clubs, rather than just a Man Utd monopoly...
