The Official Rugby World Cup Thread on 20:33 - Oct 17 by Jackfath | The issues would be game specific. For example. Why did Cuthbert come in to try to take the number 8 out? If he was commited to the tackle he should have been 100% sure of it. The tackle was too risky. He should have left the number 8 for the inside players, in this case the scrum half as the scrum had wheeled thus making the blindside flanker useless (he was being held onto anyway just befor the scrum broke). Mentally for that split second Cuthbert fked up and it cost us. There was other moments in the match too. Get rid of all those mistakes and your chances of winning are increased. |
Yeah sure, if individal errors only weren't made. Cuthbert would not have been near todays team had we any options, barring a nonsense selection. But luck today ghad far more of an influence than cuthbert.

Nonsense. It wasn't that we were unlucky when we had a couple of opportunities for a second drop goal in the second half. They had one oportunity and took it. That's the mental difference.

We're not always unlucky - sometimes the ref fûcks us up. It's coz we is Welsh, innit... | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Sometimes the other team is a little bit better too, but it's not mutually exclusive withthe other elements. Edit. That was an eminently winnable game today, but losing it hadf*ck all to do with the 'mental strength' bollux. [Post edited 17 Oct 2015 20:57]

I was thinking the same, although our backs are fit and strong they just seem to be too predictable, too much crash ball and too little flair, that's just my rugby uneducated take on it.

Nope, that is spot on. Howley needs punting.

In the marginal calls and bounces. Should have been 10 points up at half time with a bit of luck and nothing to do with the 'mental strenth' sh1te. Both the pens that went to SA for 6-0 could easily have gone the other way and I reckon certainly should have.

A fit and functional Samson will be fine. We need a proper bench option though.

I see. It was the refs fault we lost.

Overall we showed great mental strength, but as you said, one lapse by Cuthbet cost us. The scrum-half and the back row cover the inside runner, the wing, stay the bloody hell out there. Don't agree with the drop goal, as it's risky. We needed to show more composure and retain the ball, to give our defence a rest. Apply a bit of pressure on SA. The game could have gone either way, and with our injuries, we gave it our best shot, which was not quite good enough.

Drop goal was more of an option than continually pummelling their line as we did against Australia. We had already scroed one so knew Biggar was on form for it. We had several opportunites to move the phase play in field to make it easier for the kick. It was the option for points in such a close game. As they proved.

Really? you're not usually full of such paucity of argument. Maybe you just want to read it again? On another day we coud have lost, we could have won. The margins are, well marginal. But to claim mental weakness is utter bilge.

You keep on repeating that point. I'ts registered. You are now blaming the referee who could have given us a penalty instead of them. That's utter bilge and not addressing the real issues.
