Just had a look around some sites and it appears it was January 1972. I thought it was about that era as it was just before Mrs Mute came on the scene. Wow where has the time gone? âŒ›ï¸ Some great gigs at the Rank around that time.

I think it was 1972. Family were a brilliant band and Chapman a real star performer. I also saw them at Buxton Rock Festival around the same year .............................. absolutely f'cking freezing up on the moors above Buxton somewhere but a memorable day. The Rank had some cracking gigs around that time. I remember seeing Canned Heat, Jeff Beck Group with a young Rod Stewart on vocals. Bought tickets for Deep Purple but they failed to show for some reason and were replaced by maybe Hawkwind or Atomic Rooster if I remember correctly.

I was at that one. Was working in the Guildhall at the time and nipped round at lunchtime to see the roadies setting up the Great Paul Thompson's drum kit. I remember the gig. Phil MAnzanera had done his leg in and played sitting on a stool. He broke a string on his guitar and Andy Mackay played 'We'll Keep a Wekcome in the Hillside' whilst I was being repaired. The band were staying in the Dragon. Me and a pal got all the autographs after the show other than TGPT. Leo Sayer was also great and dressed as a clown. Those were the days when top bands actually came this far west. Such a shame Ferry changed from a brilliant innoventive writer with the support of the rest of the band to the over produced nonentity he is today.
