Anyone remember these machines in the 70s / 80s. What was the first one you had ? Was a miracle of the time ..

Anyways it's making a big comback and old videos are getting quite valuable and collectible.

The BBC are now offering VHS format for its store products due to high demand...

Yeah, good effort but no darts. If VHS were worth anything what would people sell at car boots?

Almost as poor as this effort by the EP

Poor Millenium Security also sent them this story but the evening post forgot to take out the section asking them to leave their web address in the story.

Obviously an April Fool. If it were true, they would have gone for the far superior version of Betamax.

I laugh in the face of VHS.

Thank you LB!

Not for this shite about tapes, but for being so deliberately obvious that I'm remeinded of the date and won't get done up like a kipper later.

I salute you.

My first panasonic was around 1983 vintage. I might be hallucinating but I seem to remember it cost 400 notes. That can't be right can it? Some miserable little scrote nicked it and my portable telly from Cwmdu in 1986.

I remember the day we had our first video recorder. Early 80s, the year Keith Deller won the World Darts Championship. It was a very exciting day. Panasonic top loader. F*cking huge it was. Rented, as was the TV at the time. We could never afford to buy.

Happy days. I've made myself all maudlin and a little teary now.

My dad used to work for 3M, so we were awash with Scotch "rerecord not fade away" tapes, hes still got plenty of them in the attic and Scotch tape.
I was a young pup back then, but we had a panasonic toploader from around the early 1980s from memory.
Its so sad to see the 3M plant in Gorseinon just there, used be a major manufacturer back in the day, now just basically an empty site.
Just shows how much we import as a country and recent Govts dont give a shite about our manufacturing expertise and turned us into a cheap service industry.

My brother once left one of his 'art' films in our old big Panasonic toploader (popular on here i see). My mother god bless her noticed that there was a tape in there and she assumed it was one of her blank tapes so she pressed record to tape a film while she watched something else on the other channel.

Next day she watched the film she had taped but didn't expect a full on spaff fest on her screen as soon as the end credits finished. (remember the days when no matter how many times we recorded stuff, bits of old recordings seemed to linger at the end of video tapes - this was one of them).

Thank you, goodnight and bollocks

Remember videodisk? now that was a cutting edge standard that could do for a comeback. switching that thing over to side b for the other hour of a film.

Mate shared a big house and all the porn vids were jokingly labelled as classic films.
Someone's dear old mother had a shock one afternoon after settling down with her tea and biscuits and Gone With The Wind turned out to be a German epic which translated as Nature's Champagne...

At least they didn't need to change the Animal Farm label on that one tape.

I remember when my dad bought home our first VHS and he told me he'd spent extra to get a remote control

Great remote control it was as well - you plugged it in to the bottom and the wire extended right across the living room to your chair...!
