Trauma Unit 07:33 - Jun 28 with 10213 viewsPrivate_Partz

BBC Cardiff have been softening us up this morning concerning the location of the Trauma Unit. A panel of experts have recommended Cardiff. This despite there being another unit 20 miles away in Bristol and twice the root of eff all in the rest of Wales.
It seems that the health of the Pricipality comes second to all things Cardiff City State.

Well done mate. You are doing a fine job.

Jac O the North is on the case as well. I urge anyone interested to check out his link. Jac rambles (as is his wont) on a bit about the Greeks and the Circuit of Wales first but scroll down. He talks about the Trauma Unit and how the Cardiff media react. I agree 100% with him.

Link
http://jacothenorth.net/blog/devolution-as-prozac/

The three maps highlighting the 'golden hour' are amazingly by courtesy of the BBC. They are truly shocking showing that currently the only region within such an area is Cardiff and the SE yet they want to site another unit there. It will be to the massive detriment to the rest of S Wales . Mid and huge areas of N Wales will be out of the equation regardless which is another massive scandal. This given the accidents that can arise in farming areas and on sub standard roads that prevail there.
His views on the media response is very telling as well.
It is shocking that the Cardiff proposal is even being considered let alone recommended.by these so called 'experts'.

Sorry to reply to myself but I am a complete technical plonker.(some will say not just technical) Can anyone get the three maps up on Jac's site and drop them into this thread? I have been trying to send them to Julie James in an email but I am failing miserably so far.
Thanks in hope PP

Cheers CJ. Incredibly that came out on the 30th March 2017 and this mystery 'panel of 'experts' are still recommending the Cardiff option. This was one of my questions to Julie James. Who are these people?
I notice it does not show the existing arrangements where everything East of Bridgend is covered already by Bristol. It also does not show the map with the Cardiff option taken up. The increased area of cover is small, just about covering Swansea Bay and missing out on Gower and everywhere westwards. Imho it certainly does not warrant the cost of installing this in the Heath where duplication with Bristol will be massive. The Swansea option will provide coverage right up to Cardigan Bay!
Apologies but my email only went off to JJ today and I had to give up on Jac's BBC maps. (Bloody IPad. )I think that two of the maps I have described above have been pulled anyway by BBC Cardiff. They have form for that when things are not going their Cardiff centric way
I will be on the case with messers Hedges and Gettings later today......

Nottingham NUH. He is going to have his finger on the pulse then. Should know better that the point of such a unit is to serve as much of the population as possible. I wonder what terms of reference he has. ....

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but out of 4 pages of people complaining about this, there has been 5 emails sent to our collective AMs. A petition is great, yeah, and I've signed, but as pointed out, they're not going to build 2.

So, question to everyone who isn't emailing, what more will it take to get you to write a few lines to your AM/Vaughan Gething to articulate your outrage that your health is being jeopardised upon the alter of Project Cardiff? Will you wait until a personal tragedy befalls someone whom you know before actually spending 5 minutes to write an email?

They need to know there is opposition because the morons will continue to vote in these vermin forever more.

I think we need a template that articulates a question we can ask our local AM/MP. We can add anything which we feel may be pertinent in each of our own submissions?

People are generally lazy aren't they, even as far as writing an email.

If someone were to post up a template letter/email on here, then that would probably encourage more people to do it?

this is what I sent:

Dear Mr Gething

I am concerned to read that the seemingly preferred choice for the Wales MTC is located in Cardiff.

This course of action would ensure that huge swathes of Wales along with North Devon and Cornwall would remain outside the "golden hour” for treatment following an accident or incident. Therefore, surely locating the MTC in the South East would be seen by the rest of Wales outside the South East as foolish at best and yet another case in a long list of Cardiff before anyone else at worst.

Surely the Welsh Government cannot ignore the health needs of a large percentage of its electorate?

Morriston would be the better location for the MTC based on the following:

- location (many more people would be within “golden hour” coverage)
- accessibility (immediate access off the nearby M4; dedicated helicopter access)
- clinical (Morriston is an important A&E centre with specialist personnel and facilities).

Locating the MTC further to the West is a “no brainer” if you want to ensure more people have earlier access to it. Locating it in Cardiff would just mean an overlap in provision with a centre already in Bristol.

I would sincerely hope that the AM’s for Swansea and further west are making you aware of the above, and acting in the best interests of the health of Wales's population.

I have attached a rather helpful map showing the population covered by the respective MTC locations.

Yours sincerely

Nick Rees

Good stuff pal. I'm going to email after work and may use this and tweak it slightly.

Here's the map for those who've not seen it. It's a no brainer surely?!

I have sent an edited version to Mr Miles and added that I am, personally, fed up of what seems to be an Assembly that gives everything to Cardiff and scraps to the rest of Wales.

Yeh those were the 3 maps I was trying to send to JJ but my email provider was having none of it. I had to summarise them instead in my communication.
They are truly shocking showing that, unlike Swansea, the Cardiff option offers little more in cover.

The expertise already in Cardiff is still no excuse for housing it there. A school of thought exists that both the Children's Hospital and Neuro Surgery units should not have gone there as adequate coverage was available in Bristol.

Putting the MTC there is only compounding the error I would say

Great minds John. That is exactly what I thought ;-)
This bloke should really know better. It makes me wonder what his terms of reference are. I suspect he has been told to save money and the fact that some expertise and units might have to be transferred to Morriston maybe swaying his recommendation.
It certainly isn't the usual TOR for Health services where the objective is to benefit as many people as possible.
I see SWEP are continuing to keep schtum about it. Their headline today is the Trust. Very commendable but surely the wellbeing of the readership is more important? I suspect they would have had at least a petition as they used do a few years ago. It seems that all that has gone now they are under the Cardiff media umbrella.

Edit: I have emailed all 3 now. Will keep all on here posted.

In fairness, you vote for a party that prioritises Cardiff wealth over our health. Nothing personal, but that is truly moronic. You never seem to mind them prioritising their wealth, but this is positively draconian.
