| Kone 07:26 - Dec 8 with 4822 views | davman | Just when he starts to hit form, along comes AFCOM. Seen loads from the club on Smith's call up for SA, but I think Kone is off too, probably after the Leicester game. Will beca bit of a loss especially against our physical friends at Portsmouth... | |

The issue will be a month with Frey upfront. THE MUMMY RETURNS.

I would say if he makes the squad that's fairly likely given he only made his debut last month.

| Kone on 13:20 - Dec 8 with 2498 views | QPRSam | The squad list is confirmed tomorrow and then they will hold training camp from 10th-20th December according to below. If called up seemingly Saturday was the last time we'll see him for a couple months. He only played 28 minutes over 2 games in the last international break so he might be an outside look - we'll find out soon. https://onefootball.com/en/news/can-2025-ivory-coast-reveals-training-camp-locat I imagine we'd just go one up top with Burrell if this was the case. Otherwise would really hope Bennie would be given a shot, I think it's 7 goals in 8 DS games this season, thought he was good in pre-season also | | | |

If Kone goes to AFCON and Kolli remains unfit then we will need Frey to play and perform. How about we try be a bit more positive about him and support him? He’s nowhere near the worst forwards we have had and has shown he can score goals for us.

I don’t think we are obliged to release him until the 15th so he may be part of Tuesday and Saturday’s teams.

Yep you're absolutely right with that, FIFA approved mandatory release on the 15th as of a week ago. So if in AFCON squad we'd still have him for the rest of this week https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c5yqpv3z810o

Supporting him isn't going to make him any quicker, Again though we've got to wonder why he was given a new contract. Bizarre decision.

Was just about to post this as a suggestion for avoiding Frey starting. A 4-5-1. Bringing Morgan back into the team (I’m a fan) and also gives Madsen the chance to be a bit more advanced up the pitch where I think his quick, progressive passing is better suited.

Frey has often looked off the pace this season , he was better a year ago, but let's not forget that he missed all the pre season friendlies and presumably much of the training too. That is often a reason given why some players have previously failed to perform well, so maybe it's the case this time. As for alternatives, maybe we will see the likes of Poku, Smyth or even Bennie getting a chance to join Burrell in attack. Maybe Chair's injury is not going to keep him out for more than 2 or 3 matches.

It’s December. He’s been laughably far off it every chance he’s had this season. I’d far rather give someone else a chance. He’s the only option that’s a big lump but we could get about as much out of a supporter plucked at random unless he improves dramatically. The kids are doing well, Poku perhaps, Smyth, Dembele. Anyone.

I think we keep Madsen where he is. He has done well so no need to rock the boat and then suddenly change things for him. I would really like to see Poku start to get a run out on the right side. If Chair isn't fit, Saito or Smyth on the left. Or maybe Dembele on the left. He was playing well there in pre season and also earlier on in the season when he could get to the byline and cross with his dominant foot. If Vale gets fit, I would give him a go as the 10. All depends if Chair is a longer lasting injury or not

| Kone on 16:44 - Dec 8 with 1703 views | Beckenhamhoop | Replying to SDM1508. Madsen has done well but that’s no excuse for not playing him in his natural position which isn’t as a deeper laying midfielder. In his last season in Belgium he scored 14 goals in 35 games because he was more advanced. He’s not gonna get anywhere near that scoring rate playing where he is atm. (All threads lead to Nicolas Madsen eventually!) [Post edited 8 Dec 16:44]

No I totally get that but it also depends on what the manager wants from him. What attributes he is interested in maximizing. I think he wants someone who can start play from deep. The slide rule pass to RND a prime example. It might be worth trying putting him further forward, I just think doing that upsets the balance of the rest of the team as you we don't have anyone else with his range of passing who can play from that slight deeper position

Morgan. I don’t think we’re gonna get relegated this season and we should maximize the potential and financial possibilities of playing Morgan. This is also a reason not to give Frey minutes unless you have to; there’s no or very little financial value in Frey.

TBF he scored 13 goals in 34 games because he took the penalties. Eight of the 13 goals he got were from the spot.

I did think his pen count was fairly high but didn’t get the stats on it. Either way I don’t see him getting 6 or 7 non penalty goals this season (if you extrapolate the goals to games ratio for Westerloo across this Championship season) playing the slightly deeper role. He hasn’t scored at all from open play this year. [Post edited 8 Dec 17:54]
