Which BFC forum has the biggest % of dickheads?
at 13:06 30 Sep 2019

As an attendee I posted on AVFTT throughout the boycott and consistently received abuse and threats from a handful of posters. I always tried to remain calm and didn’t respond to abuse with abuse. My main point was that attending or boycotting was up to the individual to decide.

I met and talked to many of the BST people on flag duty behind the West Stand and while clearly we disagreed there was no animosity ((not to my face anyway!). That was all I ever wanted, an adult discussion about something close to our hearts. Since then I have met a few AVFTT posters and had similar adult discussions.

Make of that what you will but I believe there are many good people and good Pool fans on AVFTT.

However my experiences on AVFTT led me to this site where I feel more comfortable to express my views.

Day Trip to Blackpool, Easter 1936

Agree with you lala, it’s all too easy to write Blackpool off because of the bad bits, which let’s face it every town has. Lots to do and see, I love the Fylde coast. Whenever I’ve been away I’m always happy to come back here

Great video Spell!
It’s good to see how much remains the same after over 80 years. Really special for me was the front seat of the National. I worked as a ride hand on the Grand National for 2 seasons after I left school - great memories of the early 70's and it reminds me what a great place Blackpool can be, thank you!

I try to be positive and rational when posting as spell chekker mentioned and that seems to be the general theme with the posters on here. Exchanging ideas is fine but I think it’s where we take it when we have differences of opinion that’s important. Confrontation and hostility just seems to me to polarise things and there’s no way back from that. It takes a bit of integrity to accept differences, move on and stay friends. I’m prattling on a bit now!

As Jane says we’re lucky this is a nice place to go!
I’ve never met BringBackTheRedRoom, ROTTWEILERS, lala, spudgun but get good wishes - can’t do better than that!

Cheers all

Hi Jane et al
I’m on my way back here again thanks. Been a fair bit going on for me recently which is positive.
This forum is still a breath of fresh air and your posts to me and many others reflect that. So many good people out there!

I stopped posting on avftt a while ago now and it has to be said there are many good people on there also some of whom I’ve met face to face. Bumped into seasideexile yesterday without knowing who it was until well into a chat about life and football- a really sound bloke! Just trying to focus on the positives now and leave all the angst behind. Much better for the soul. Football brings more people together than it sets apart.

Anyway as I said I’m online again - I posted a reply to spell chekker when having a brew in the early hours.

Onward and upward with the Pool!

Memorable Tackles

Spell chekker

Interesting post. One tackle I remember with absolute clarity was in a Pool v Chelsea match in the late '60''s. it had a seriously bad result.
I was stood with my late Dad on the right side of the kop and it happened in front of the scratching shed on the other side. Peter Osgood had the ball and was tackled by a young Emlyn Hughes breaking Osgood''s leg. Emlyn was always a hard tackler but no body believed that was his intent. Many people said they heard the break. It was tragedy for Osgood because he was a stylish classy player and a Chelsea icon.
Sickening to see it also.

Jane, spellchekker, spud

I’m getting to games again now and I'll be there on Saturday, so things on the up. If any of you see a broken down old git shuffling around between the bar, the pie cabinet and Block P it could be me! Not that bad really but you get the idea.

Thanks for your thoughts. I’ll get posting again!

Cheers all

Lala I was pleased to see this also, too many display poor behaviour and then get support for it.

Like the new words you’re making up!

Thanks Jane, that’s the man. I don’t know why, I’ve seen a lot of Robert de Niro and Al Pacino films but this rates the top of them in my mind, probably all the supporting actors and actresses. If you can stand the violent interludes they add to the film and aren’t gratuitous.

Cheers Jane

Minus the gifs sorry

Heat - Robert de Niro, Al Pacino. Violent in parts but great acting.

Shawshank Redemption, Morgan Freeman, Tim Robbins. Heartwarming and will have you in tears, still does with me after multiple watches

Thanks Spell chekker, that's it! What a cracking advert, makes you feel all happy and thirsty!
No expensive team of ad men needed to develop adverts than, they didn’t even need a ZX Spectrum!

Sunny days really do make a difference to my attitude and mood. I find it much more difficult to be a miserable old git!
Beer in the garden sounds nice too Jane, I don’t know where this came from but when I read your post about a bar at home I suddenly remembered a tv advert from years ago - Davenports Beer at Home. Anyone else remember this? Years before home deliveries became the norm. I can remember the important things in life!

I like Portillo's train journeys programme too. Trains, British history largely from the point of view ' how we lived then' and all the interesting people he meets. A great mix in my view

BringBackTheRedRoom a classic indeed! A magazine for the discerning reader. Roger Mellie, Mrs Brady, Big Vern, I’m surprised it’s not on the school curriculum

Jane, I hope you enjoy it, as others have said it’s a bit dodgy recommending books to other people.
I haven’t been reading much myself recently, apart from Viz but people tell me it’s not a book.

The Go Between by LP Hartley.
I read this book as part of my English course at school. I meant to read it again and I may do now I’ve thought about it!

Chernobyl
at 09:17 6 Jun 2019

I’ve recorded all episodes of Chernobyl, going to watch the final one today. As BBTR says it’s intense and disturbing. I’m glad the producers did manage to convey the desolation that ensued and that that was a small fraction of what could have happened had it not been for some very very brave men. The incident wasn’t 'softened ' in any way for the television audience. Myself and a mate visited Ukraine in 2014 and spent a day in Chernobyl and Pripyat where it’s clear from the monuments to the firefighters the esteem with which the local people hold those men.
A really well produced and disturbing programme.
