| EFL clubs to vote on expanding Championship playoffs to six clubs on 17:34 - Feb 10 with 3594 views | aston_hoop | Of course they should reject it. But I don't think they will, the clubs will act in their own self interest which is going to be to maximise the chance of going up | |

Yet again, Execs pi$$ing around with stuff 'cos they can't leave things alone and need to keep themselves in a job.

They do a version of this in Conference North/South and although my general feeling it we don’t need a change, this appears to work well as it is could be worth exploring. Would keep the season going longer for many clubs and a bit more end of season revenue.

Assuming you stick with home and away ties in the playoffs up to the final it will mean teams finishing 5th-8th will have to play five post-season matches, or effectively a 51 game season if they reach the playoff final. This will give clubs yet another incentive to sack off the cup fixtures. It's a terrible idea.

In the article mentioned in the opening post it says this: 'The fifth-placed team would play the eighth-placed team, and sixth would play seventh, at the higher-ranked club’s ground in a one-off tie to determine progression to the two-leg playoff semi-finals against the clubs that finished third and fourth.' So a maximum of 4 games instead of the current 3

| EFL clubs to vote on expanding Championship playoffs to six clubs on 21:41 - Feb 10 with 2799 views | OakR | My initial reaction was no but actually I also don't mind it. When the playoffs were first discussed lots of people were against it, how could 6th go up instead of 3rd. This is an expansion on that - will keep the league competitive a bit longer and aurguably give the teams in 3rd / 4th a better chance of going up by having more rest and one less game before the semi-finals. I like the current format and don't think it needs changing, but I don't think this is a terrible idea. I can't see it not being voted for - you'd think neatly all clubs would vote for it. I'd be much less keen on this happening with relegation places. | |

Fair enough. But I still think it's a terrible idea, and I still think it will give clubs another reason to "concentrate on the league" and ignore the cups.
