“Those fans who have bemoaned the club for buying a crock, have forgotten that, the hamstring injury was out of the blue and a reaction to returning to full time training after so long out.”

I still bemoan the club. It was a pointless signing! Having been out with such a bad injury, there was always going to be further niggles. Had we bought the striker we needed then we would have probably gone straight up

Poll: Has the Ross Stewart deal already paid off as Nick says?

We still had Che Adams who with 16 league goals in the regular season is only bettered by five other players and of course Adam Armstrong who was only bettered by one and we were the third best attack in the League.

The issue was the every changing defence in the last third of the season.

Why was there always going to be further niggles, his Achilles was completely healed, the hamstring was unconnected, we had the striking power the gamble was when Steward would be fit.

Because following a long term injury he would have been using his muscles differently eg over compensating. This leads to over niggles / injuries .

Che Adams should feel embarrassed with his efforts . He should been hitting 25 with his eyes closed . Cardiff away was a typical example. He scores and the defence dosent come under pressure.

Ross Stewart is a potential game-changer for us.

Adams and A Armstrong should easily have scored another 7-10 goals each this season. The amount of excellent chances they and their team mates have missed is quite ridiculous.

Our season long issue of failing to kill teams off when we are on top, really has come back and bitten us.

That along with gifting the opposition easy chances, conceding, panicking and often throwing points away.

Goals change games - kill teams off and there are no repercussions.

"The next 3 games"

Well optimistic that we'll get past the Baggies then which is a good sign!

I've a sneaky feeling he's right, and if Stewart plays a decent part rather than a cameo all the better!

I find it very hard to criticise Adams and AA when by any measure of Championship statistics, they are more or less where we finished in the league.

The "what if" game is in the realms of fantasy football.

What if we had discovered in our junior teams somebody like Bale, Walcott, Bridge who came into the first team and scored 12 goals?

What if we had found a perfect keeper busking on the street corner and recruited him?

What of, we had found a manager who player to the strengths of the team and not forced them to play in a system unsuited to this league?

(OK - I'll give you the last one).
