As a member of Kent Cricket Club, I got to enjoy my first match of the season against Somerset at Canterbury over the last few days. Unfortunately, as is always the way starting the season this early, the first day was lost to rain. In fact nearly all the games were affected by rain, some without a ball even being bowled.
But I did manage to get to see 2 centurions at Canterbury yesterday and a very enjoyable day of cricket (even if I did get sun burned head - Yes I know should have taken a cap).
Did anyone else get to see cricket over the last few days? I know we have several Middlesex supporters who no doubt enjoyed the 'runfest' at Lords (over 1300 runs I believe) I've started a new thread for the 2026 season, and I've started it now because the T20 World Cup starts a week today. (And in fact 2 months and we will be chatting county cricket red ball) In a group with Italy, Nepal and Scotland and a pretty solid squad I expect that we will progress beyond the group stage. After that who knows and will depend on fitness. Curran and Salt played very well in the first game warm up game v Sri Lanka but tougher tests are ahead. Anyway, here is the squad for England (albeit still provisional). Harry Brook (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Josh Tongue, Luke Wood. Be relying on Archer to stay fit (as per usual) - But hope that Brook finally stands up as captain, and Banton and Jacks perfom like we know they can at county level. If all that clicks should be a good watch.
| Cricket 2026 County/International Thread on 18:09 - Feb 1 with 2671 views | Superhoops2808 | After the superb win yesterday, this went down the list but another superb win today by England although there was some pretty wayward bowling with Curran and Overton going at 15's. But if Brook continues this batting form, and Butler and Banton did well today, then well within a shout of the T20 World Cup | | | |

I think we have a decent chance, especially if Adil Rashid keeps fit. What a servant he has been - and to me he is bowling better than ever. Brilliant again today. Would still like to see more of Rehan Ahmed but they just don't seem to want to give him a long run.

Curran got us back into it with Bethell doing well with the wickets On a side note, a great England U19 semi final v Australia today. Went right to the wire but England are in the final on Friday. Thomas Rew, (younger brother of James) scored 110. Definitely one for the future and already looking a bigger prospect than his brother. Australia got hammered in record T20 defeat by Pakistan too. Shame that Bangladesh and Pakistan have been impacted by politics because of the stupid ICC

Yeah the U19s give us some hope for the future, even if the ECB doesn't. You'd expect one if not both Rews making it into the senior team in the next few years.

Absolute certainties, IMHO.

India’s 14 year old boy wonder, Sooryavanshi, has gone potty in the other semi, 68 off 33 balls. He might end up as the richest sportsman that ever lived [Post edited 4 Feb 13:38]

He's unbelievable, we will spend the rest of our cricketing days watching this guy smash England to all parts. Especially in the English tradition over Test series of being totally unable to stop one opposition player making a mountain of runs every single innings.

Can we not poach him and make him play for England? It wouldn’t be the first time would it?

Scored 175 off 80 balls FFS. India currently 308 for 4 off 36 overs...might get 450 at this rate!!

At one point, while he was still at the crease, the predicted score was in the 500's

He’ll make much more money at home these days. The only hope for the rest of the world is his shoulders breaking down from overuse, or him getting bored at 19 and deciding he wants to play baseball.

Luckily the last 5 wickets only went for 52 runs.Tough task to get 412 runs to win.

I’m only following it on Cricinfo, but this is a wonderful game. Well, I jinxed that. Still great effort by Falconer, let’s hope Middlesex can keep him, but hail to the New King! [Post edited 6 Feb 14:55]

I think had Dawkins (good prospect for us at Kent) and Falconer stuck together longer, they were keeping up with the required rate, we could potentially of got close. However, bias aside, it would have been criminal if Suryavanshi had ended up on the losing side. If ever there has been a game changing innings that was it. Sad to see that middle order collapses run down from the senior squad too. Overall though a good campaign and on to the main course of the men's T20 World Cup

Salt and Curran were shocking, with the latter chewing up balls without scoring, and as for Banton dancing down the wicket to the first ball of his innings was just stupid!! Hope our bowlers are going to be on the money And hopefully Brook will knock it about a bit for the last 4 overs here. Edit: Nice Cameo by Jacks at the end [Post edited 8 Feb 11:08]

It's worse than that. Giving runs away after being really tight. Nepal need 14 from 9.

| Cricket 2026 County/International Thread on 13:09 - Feb 8 with 1353 views | Superhoops2808 | Well that was too close, and tbh extremely poor from England. Fair play to Curran who was pony with the bat, he was very good with that last over. We deserved to lose that though some really poor performances from some of our senior players such as Salt, Rashid and Archer. Luke Wood's final over despite the wicket was shocking with 3 wides. Gonna have to up our game if we are to do anything in this tournament | | | |

Maybe England thought they would coast to a win after their recent wins over Sri Lanka - just shows that if you have a few players who don't deliver, it's easy to slip up. Thought Curran was excellent bowling that last over and dealt with the pressure well, while Archer and Wood didn't cope very well with the pressure in the last overs they bowled.

Unfortunately they simply didn't score enough boundaries when they needed them and were guilty of chasing too hard.

I'm afraid when a side drops 3 catches in 4 balls, they dont really deserve to win - That was appalling really
